6 Pre-Event Preparation's
Coordinate with Head Clerk At the end of the day you report to them, so see if they want things to go a certain way. Talk about paper flow. Review facility Go to the finish line and start in lane 2 and walk around the track, while taking note of the lines in that lane and if it tabled what is says. I use a blank track map as well Check in With the officials coordinator to find out where the clerking area is just other facilities questions Get a Program Look at your numbers to see how you’ll stage everyone I normally write on the schedule the start line colors Coordinate with start crew Introduce yourself Tell them how you operate What additional things would they like you to help with

7 Starting Lines (“Standard” Markings)
100/100H Lanes – Solid white 1,500 Waterfall – Start of bkstrtch 4x100 Lanes – Solid white 110H Lanes – Solid white 3,000 SC Waterfall – White w/green 4x200 **** Lanes – White w/red 200 Lanes – Solid white 3,000 Waterfall – End of bkstrtch 4x400 *** Lanes – White w/blue 400/400IH Lanes – Solid white 5,000 Waterfall – End of bkstrtch 4x800* Lanes/Alleys – White w/grn 800 * Lanes/Alleys-Wht w/grn 10,000 Waterfall – Start/finish Sprnt Med **Lanes – White w/blue Dist Med Waterfall – Start/finish * 1-turn stagger *** 3-turn stagger **** 4- turn stagger

8 Event Meeting Check In sheets The start On the line Staging
I gather up all athletes in that event and call them for a meeting in the bullpin No electronics Missing Athletes I make an announcement of the people who hadn't check-in. Event Details. I let them know the stagger, the lane color and where the break if so. Check In sheets Get the check-in sheets from the clerks at the table. Make sure you understand the marking they’ve made on the sheets Staging Straightaway I stake them one after another, in their heats and lane. On a turn Depending on track set up either on the in-field or outside of the track Once the heats go off put the next heat on the track and have them set their blocks. Lanes 4-8 or depends Be race ready and nothing with you On the line Straightaway Walk down the line and call them up. If not present put dns Then signal to the finishline crew of timers that the lane is open On a turn Double check that everyone is on the right line. Make sure block holders sit down The start Signal over to the starter that the athletes are ready and in their control

9 relays Other than telling all athletes the exchange zones for the 4/100 and 4/200 the line clerk comes into play mainly for the 4/400. Most starters like to help or take over the 4/400 exchange with it being the California exchange. But technically the line clerk shall place relay teams members in their proper positions on the track. (NCAA RULE 3, section 6 (e). Gather everyone around and explain to them the rules of the exchange. I like to stand on the inside of the track and telling the athletes to be on the other side of the line, move down to lane 1 when the person in front of you leaves.
