10. The Twitter journey
The integration of Twitter, did not reap immediate rewards.
2009 student evaluations reported,
“use of Twitter was tokenistic” (Student, EDFD529, 2009)
“use of Twitter was over-dominated by certain students. There needs to be a way to control that.” (Student, EDFD529, 2009).
The cyclic interrogation of the student evaluations and literature on the use of social media in higher education (e.g. Siemens, 2007; Keefer, 2008) has resulted in the establishment of a strong ACU social media community
2015 responses from student evaluations read, “The Twitter assignment was very enriching. I have a phobia of social media and was resistant to Twitter. However as I came to understand Twitter and how it is used I found it beneficial. I have made educational connections with experts all of [sic.] the world and will continue to use it throughout my career.” (Student, EDFD472, 2015)
