2. What is a Canvass? FIVE Potential Canvasses
A canvass confirms the official number of ballots cast and the final total of votes per candidate.
It confirms or amends the election night results
Allows for time to evaluate and verify any provisional ballots cast and add those to the election night results for the official total if approved
Allows time for someone who had insufficient photo voter ID to cure their provisional ballot
Allows time for any overseas or military ballots to be received and counted

Precinct by Precinct – the results for each candidate in each voting precinct

3. How do I Canvass? Where do I get the data? What do I do with the data?
Contact the county clerk or county election officer who will provide you with the results
Overall Data
Total number of voters who voted
Total number of provisional ballots cast
Total number of provisional ballots counted
Candidate Specific Data
Number of votes for that candidate in the county
What do I do with the data?
Submit those numbers on the SOS
Will be transmitted to RPT as well.

5. County & Precinct
March 7th – Deadline to post notice of the local canvass
The canvass is NOT required to be held in the county seat (NEW LAW)
The county chair determines the time and place
March 9th – Deadline to post notice of ballot drawing for County & Precinct races in the Runoff
Must be posted on
the County Commissioners’ Bulletin Board
AND on the County Party website if applicable
March 10th
Canvass conducted for ALL Offices
Ballot Draw for County & Local offices in the runoff election

6. Statewide & Multi County
March 11th – Deadline for County Chair submit the canvass results for statewide & multi county races to RPT/SOS
March 13th – Deadline for RPT to hold State Canvass
RPT must certify the names in the Runoff Election to the County parties as soon as possible
March 14th – Deadline for RPT to certify State Canvass
RPT must certify the names in multi county & statewide races in the Runoff Election to the County parties ASAP
March 14th – Deadline to post notice of the statewide & multi County Runoff races
Notice must be posted
On the County Commissioners’ Bulletin Board
AND on the County Party website if applicable
March 17th – Statewide & District Runoff Election Ballot Draw

7. Precinct by Precinct
March 31st – Deadline for County Chair submit PRIMARY precinct by precinct canvass to SOS
New Law – the County Clerk will prepare the results but the County Chair must submit them to SOS electronically
June 23rd – Deadline for County Chair submit RUNOFF precinct by precinct canvass to SOS

8. FAQs May I post all three notices at the same time?
Yes!  The first deadline is Monday, March 7th so make sure you post them on or before that day.
Does the County Chair have to be present to canvass the vote?
No – a member of the CEC
Does the CEC have to be present to canvass the vote?
No but they can be. A new state law says that if someone was elected by the CEC to represent the whole at the canvass with the county chair that person does have to present.
Does the County Chair have to be present to hold the runoff ballot drawing?

9. FAQs Who can attend the ballot drawing?
The ballot drawing is an open meeting and anyone can attend including candidates and media
Do I submit the outcome of the ballot drawing to RPT?
No.  Putting the info on the SOS website will also submit the info to RPT.
However, you will want to submit it to your county election officer and to your election service to order/program your ballots for the runoff election
Do I submit the canvass for local races to RPT?
No.  You will only submit canvass results for multi county and statewide candidates to RPT/SOS
What are precinct by precinct canvass results and who do I submit them to?
There are different due dates and guidelines for submission of precinct by precinct returns. 
NOTE: SOS will NOT release your final funding check if you do not submit these results
