1 Advisor Training Student Org Leadership Development Workshops
Student Activities and Organizations

2 Organization Registration
All requirements must be completed by the end of the registration Window to stay in continuous Active status. Student Organization Registration Opens August 1 Your Organization must be registered to hold events, activities and qualify for funding. Annual Requirements • Training (President, Treasurer, Advisor) Advisor Agreement • Boilerlink Updates (President) • At least 5 members • Good Standing (Financial, Judicial, Academic) •Updated Constitution It is important that your organization has a complete and updated profile, because SAO sends students and businesses to BoilerLink. You want your page to “sell” your organization to these students (your potential members!) and to businesses (yay money!)

3 First things first Role of the Advisor
University Faculty or Staff member Primary resource for the organization Meet with officers on a regular basis Complete Advisor Certification Discuss organization goals, events, travel, projects annually Assist with transition old to new officers Co-signer on organization BOSO bank account

4 Advisors Workshop Functions of the Advisor
Use of an Activities Form - Use services & facilities available Know about financial procedures For Groups recognized by BOSO, advisors will always have access to assist with banking. No outside bank accounts are permitted Keep SAO informed: Up-to-date Election Report within 3 weeks after your election National or international conference opportunities Major problems the group is having Awards or honors received by individuals or the group

5 Advisors Workshop Functions of the Advisor
Suggest and encourage ideas as well as Provide insight into the organization’s problems and successes. To provide a space for students to address concerns To report concerns of sexual assault, harassment, and students of concern to the Dean of Students office. Be knowledgeable about activities and programs of the organization. Teach and foster leadership techniques. Take an active role in the transition of responsibilities between outgoing and incoming officers. Assist in the development of procedures and plans of actions.

6 Planning Events Make sure the necessary spaces are reserved before you submit an Activity Planning Form (APF) on BoilerLink APFs must be submitted with at least two weeks’ notice to ensure approval. Note, certain event types (i.e. concerts) and travel (i.e. international) required earlier submission. It is best to submit EARLY!!! We require timely responses to any questions regarding your organization’s submission Timely responses: update settings to receive notifications when a comment is made on a submission, or otherwise check back daily to address any questions or comments.

Assessing, minimizing, and preventing accidental loss through the use of safety measures Varying levels and types of risk with student organizations Liability Safety Reputation Financial Emergency We have the ability to review the event during a Campus Safety meeting

8 Advisors Workshop Risk Management
Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy & Campus Crime Statistics Act Under federal law, campuses must compile and publish campus crime statistics If any person reveals to you that they have been the victim of or witness to any crime of violence, you must report it. Hazing and sexual/relationship violence ARE included Reporting a crime does not mean that charges will be filed.

Student Organization Grant Allocation (SOGA) Deadlines for SOGA Sept. 9, February 1, April 1 Provost Engagement Grants Student Organization Co-Sponsorships PSUB, PSG, College Student Councils PSUB also assists with marketing and promotion Student Fee Advisory Board Grants For large scale projects that will affect the student body as a whole (>$15,000) Give examples of each
