7 1. Elephants, also called pachyderms, are nomadic because they graze and eat most of the available food quickly. What does the word pachyderm mean? Rough Skinned Thick Skinned Scavenger Wrinkle Skinned

8 Additional Information
1 Additional Information People who first touch an elephant’s skin often say it feels the same as a pencil’s eraser. The skin needs to be thick because the elephant’s mass is so great (a thin skinned elephant would just not do). Although the elephant’s skin is thick, it is chock-full of nerve endings, allowing the animal to sense every fly that chooses to land upon it.

9 When, where, and what was the experience like?
1 Share your story with the group. Has anyone ever ridden on an elephant or other large animal? When, where, and what was the experience like?

10 2. Today over 70 governments have patterned their laws around these or actually use these verbatim. Which is it? The Dead Sea Scrolls The writings of John Locke The U.S. Constitution The Magna Carta The Napoleonic Code

11 2 The Napoleonic Code established certain important provisions regarding the law of the land. Laws could only be enforced if they had been officially published, thus no secret laws were authorized. Discuss why this type of disclosure might be important within any organization?

12 Additional Information
2 Additional Information The Napoleonic Code was adopted in many countries occupied by the French during the Napoleonic Wars and thus formed the basis of the private law systems of Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and their former colonies. It was also adopted in 1864 by Romania, and with modifications, is still in force today!

13 3. Which great leader proclaimed, "Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword”? Julius Caesar Napoleon Bonaparte William the Conqueror Franklin Delano Roosevelt

14 Are there current day parallels that might be made here?
3 What is Caesar alluding to when he proclaims, “patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword”? Are there current day parallels that might be made here?

15 Additional Information
3 Additional Information Other quotations attributed to Julius Caesar: "It is not these well-fed, long-haired men that I fear, but the pale and the hungry-looking." What! art thou, too, one of them? Thou, my son! (aka Et tu, Brute?) Go on, my friend, and fear nothing; you carry Caesar and his fortune in your boat. Men willingly believe what they wish. I wished my wife to be not so much as suspected.

16 4. Who was the first President to occupy the White House?
Andrew Jackson Thomas Jefferson John Adams George Washington

17 Suggest ways that team members might learn more about one another.
4 As individuals come together to form a team they often do not know very much about one another. Even teams that have worked together for a long time, sometimes have a limited perception of their fellow teammates. Suggest ways that team members might learn more about one another.

18 Additional Information
4 Additional Information Construction began on the Nation’s White House in October of President Washington supervised the construction of the house but never lived in it. It was not until 1800, when the White House was nearly completed, that its first residents, President John Adams and his wife, Abigail, moved in. The White House is, of course, the private residence of our President. A private residence that has always been open to the public for FREE!

19 5. Declared by many to be the worst President in our Nation’s history, this Chief Executive would play poker (at times gambling with the White House china!) and drink bootlegged liquor in the White House, while professing support for prohibition. Who was he? Chester A. Arthur Franklin Pierce Warren G. Harding Millard Fillmore

20 5 Our actions often speak louder than our words. According to the question, this seemed to be the case for Warren G. Harding. His Presidency may have suffered from a lack of conviction to his stated principles. Why is it critical that members within a team “practice what they preach”?

21 Additional Information
5 Additional Information President Harding had several “firsts” during his administration: the first president to visit Alaska and Canada, the first president to speak on the radio, and the first to have a radio in the White House. 23 Why is the 80/20 rule helpful for teams to consider?
6 Speaking of rules of thumb, we have all heard of the 80/20 rule, Pareto’s Principle, or the Law of the Vital Few. This law basically states that 80 percent of a given effect often results from 20 percent of the possible causes. In business 80% of sales are often attributed to 20% of the clients. Why is the 80/20 rule helpful for teams to consider?

24 Additional Information
6 Additional Information The Rule of Thumb references using a quick and less accurate measurement standard (like your thumb) for general estimates. The term may also have originated from the practice of using one’s thumb to judge the proper seed depth for planting.

Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar® (first marketed in 1971), a fiber five times stronger ounce for ounce than steel, but about half the density of fiberglass.
