3 In addition to the Sabbath, these are
the Lord’s appointed festivals, the official days for holy assembly that are to be celebrated at their proper times each year. The Lord’s Passover begins at sundown on the fourteenth day of the first month. Leviticus 23:4-5 (NLT)

4

5 will be the first month of the year
While the Israelites were still in the land of Egypt, the Lord gave the following instructions to Moses and Aaron: “From now on, this month will be the first month of the year for you. Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one... (cont’d) Exodus 12:1-5 (NLT)

...animal for each household. If a family is too small to eat a whole animal, let them share with another family in the neighborhood. Divide the animal according to the size of each family and how much they can eat. The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects. Exodus 12:1-5 (NLT)

8 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver
or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 1 Peter 1:18-20 (NLT)

12 Exodus 12:6-13, 46-47 (NLT) Take special care of this chosen
animal until the evening of the fourteenth day of this first month. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight. They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal. That same night they must roast the meat over... Do not eat any of the meat raw or boiled in water. The whole animal—including the head, legs, and internal organs— must be roasted over a fire. Do not leave any of it until the next morning. Burn whatever is not eaten before morning. These are your instructions for eating this meal: Be fully dressed, wear... (cont’d) Exodus 12:6-13, (NLT)

...your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand. Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the Lord’s Passover. On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the Lord! But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the... (cont’d) Exodus 12:6-13, (NLT)

I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. …Each Passover lamb must be eaten in one house. Do not carry any of its meat outside, and do not break any of its bones. The whole community of Israel must celebrate this Passover festival. Exodus 12:6-13, (NLT)

19 Jesus said, “I have been very eager
to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” …He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my... (cont’d) Luke 22:15-16,19-20 (NLT)

After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. Luke 22:15-16,19-20 (NLT)

24 The Jewish leaders didn’t want the
bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus, they... (cont’d) John 19:31-36 (NLT)

...saw he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. (This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe.) These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, “Not one of his bones will be broken,” John 19:31-36 (NLT)
