1 Welcome to Barker Road Middle School, Purple Team!
Mrs. Roser Social Studies –1st & 6th periods

2 Who is Mrs. Roser? This is my 18th year teaching.
I taught 2nd and 3rd grades for 15 years. I graduated from St. John Fisher College with a BS in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Education. After spending 10 years as a mortgage underwriter, I went to Nazareth College for my Masters in Reading and Elementary Education.

3 I have two sons. Brian is a senior at SUNY Oneonta and Jason is a freshman at SUNY Oneonta (both graduated from Sutherland). My dog Manny is 10 years old and we spend a lot of time at our family camp in the Adirondacks.

5 Courses of Study Full Year – Core every day World Languages/Gym – every other day Half Year – Health, Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Select Chorus Optional – Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Select Chorus Lunch – 5A or 5B

6 Miscellaneous Homeroom – Gather notes, take attendance, morning announcements Bus Passes – Must have a written note First Bell – 7:35 Sign in/out – in the main office Homework Requests – after 2 sick days Homework Pick-up – envelope on wall rack across from main office Late Buses – 3:25 Enrichment-7th period daily

7 6th Grade enrichment- period 7
Start of the school year students go to their homeroom for enrichment (7th period). We discuss transitioning to BRMS About the 3rd week of school, we start rotating through core classes: Monday – 1st period class Tuesday – 3rd period class Wednesday – 4th period class Thursday – 6th period class Friday – 1st period class (in room)

8 Social Studies Enrichment:
In room Every Friday With one of the purple team teachers (rotates about once a month) Students work on missing homework assignments Make up test or quizzes Get extra help Social Studies Enrichment: continue instruction, work from class, supplemental work, or sharing of projects/maps

12 Homework policy All homework is due at beginning of class on assigned date. Homework is posted on the board, then copied into agendas. I will add to my homework calendar, but the agenda is the primary source. If homework is late or incomplete, points may be deducted. If late, student will be expected to work during free period, or study hall to complete, or finish at home. It is due the next day. Parents will be contacted if homework is consistently incomplete.

13 6th Grade Social Studies
Homework is given 1-2 times a week Monday – Thursday. Tests are given after each unit. Each test requires more written responses. There is an opportunity to take a retest after some tests. Some units will require projects or webquests either in school or at home.

14 Benchmark Assessments
There will be 4 Benchmark Assessments spread throughout the year Students will need to analyze documents and write a paragraph or two about these documents

15 Grading Tests/quizzes – 80% Maps/Projects – 15% Daily homework – 5%
Infinite Campus on-line grading has begun If you do not have a portal account, go to the registrar to sign up
