Course overview Validated 2014 to 2019

level 4 skills based level 5 proficient in clinical reasoning level 6 Self directed learners We have redesigned the course by considering the outputs for each level of training and then agreeing the content for each year before wrapping that into modules. All stakeholders have had input to the designs, including clinicians, students and service users.

4 Level 4 MSK Neuro Long term conditions Dementia Anatomy & physiology
focus on large muscle groups basic CNS, tone muscle structure Pathology: relate to CVA/MS/PD Physio skills assessment of posture/movement/gait handling skills use of aids Builds on Neuro module Anatomy & physiology detailed joints tissue healing pain Pathology: OA/RA joint replacement /fractures Physio skills: Objective Ax/ clinical decision making Exercise heat/ice

5 Developing Professional Practice
level 4 CVR Developing Professional Practice Anatomy & physiology: control & regulation of respiratory & cardiac systems Pathology: COPD/PVD/asthma/ surgery Physio skills basic Ax parameters ACBT, flutter, PEP, spirometry, manual techniques patient education underpins all modules prepares for professional practice professionalism reflection observational visits prepares for placement which is 50% of module mark pre-clinical mandatory skills safeguarding,core values delivers research component clinical guidelines, systematic reviews, protocols relevant to each of the clinical conditions in physio modules

6 Interprofessional Learning
Level 4 Exercise Interprofessional Learning level 2 fitness instructor award complements core Physio modules prepares for placement clinical populations: pathologies covered in other L4 modules obesity diabetes mental health Physio skills exercise prescription group exercise motivation/adherence/ behavior change reflection communication professionalism regulatory frameworks legal & ethical issues safeguarding lifestyle choices and impact on health

8 Level 5 Exercise and Physical Activity Physiotherapy Practice
40 credit module building on level 4 Physio modules & preparing for placement case study based integrates CVR, MSK, , Neuro built around physiotherapeutic process problem identification & prioritization goal setting patient management impact of specific clinical settings includes level 3 fitness instructor award builds complexity on year 1 exercise prescription complex client groups long term conditions multi-pathology research methodology quantitative data collection & analysis outcome measurement and monitoring health promotion

Level 5 Patient Centred Practice Interprofessional Module principles of MDT working service user and carer involvement clinical governance collaborative decision making promoting safe and effective service environments Service user focused Models of health/illness Talking therapies Pain management Models of client centred care Qualitative research methodology

11 Interprofessional Module Complex Case Management
Level 6 Interprofessional Module Complex Case Management builds on reflective practice & service user and carer involvement quality improvement methodology & evaluation leadership & entrepreneurial skills enquiry based learning series of case studies allocated to small groups to research and synthesise findings women's health burns & plastics peripheral neuropathy amputees multiple trauma 4 hours teaching per week to support service user perspective & clinical skills for each case study

12 Promoting activity & social inclusion
level 6 Employability Promoting activity & social inclusion retain opportunities for overseas experience & venture matrix (SHU body supporting independent projects) additional opportunities for extra curricular learning, post graduate taster days development of Pebblepad portfolio for final assessment (in line with HCPC) academic advisors will deliver this module retain content on selection process application, CV, personal statement interview & presentations skills 3 themes paediatrics learning disabilities mental health key note content online delivery small groups identify areas for research focus on the Physio role in promoting self management & social inclusion
