1 Defense Acquisition Management Information Retrieval Version 3
Defense Acquisition Management Information Retrieval Version 3.0 DAMIR Training Conference October 30 For those of you who might be new to DAMIR. initiative to improve data transparency for acquisition program oversight across the enterprise Goal to streamlines program management reporting by eliminating duplicate data entry and provide better presentation and analysis tools Elizabeth Flaharty Lynne Giordano OUSD(AT&L) ARA

2 DAMIR Vision Depiction of DAMIR concept.
principles of net-centricity to retrieve data from official authoritative sources leverages existing data sources from Services and Agency Provide information visibility to entire acquisition community and interested parties use same information providing Acquisition Visibility to the decision makers

3 Current DAMIR Components and Features
Purview Web-based Executive Information System that provides access to current and historical CARS information on the desktop Includes both MDAP and MAIS programs Includes DAES, SAR and APB information Virtual Library Net-centric solution to access unstructured information COTS tool DAES Review OSD tool for rating program performance Web Services Architecture DAMIR Reports Analysis and Ad Hoc Reporting Supporting Documentation DAMIR implemented through spiral development Consists of three components, Purview, Virtual Library and DAES Review, as well as the DAMIR Web Services Purview is the presentation layer and our first step in achieving DAMIR. Purview is a web-based application that provides you with access to acquisition program information that is currently found in SAR and DAES reports. Virtual Library search tool for unstructured data discovery. Built to meet Acquisition community's requirement for a tool that helps users search for information stored in various formats, such as Word documents or .PDF files. DAES Review supports program assessment requirement. DAMIR Web Services is currently exchanging data Army and Navy DAES-like information. DAMIR Reports is analysis and ad hoc reporting tool. Added supporting documentation to support “hanging” of related documents such as the DAES Charts.

4 Coming Soon with DAMIR 3.0 Expanded Web Services Architecture
Supports the retirement of DAES Reporting in CARS Leverages existing data sources Enables two-way information flow SAR Web Application Data entry capability for all required SAR data Ability to pre-populate from previous SAR or web service submissions Cost Variance Support (Computational Model) Cost Funding Worksheet APB/SAR Baseline Web Application Data entry capability for all required APB and SAR baseline data Ability to pre-populate from previous baseline information or web service submissions Classified DAMIR Enhanced Analysis and Reporting So, now for why we’ve invited you here. DAMIR 3.0 is a major update that better utilizes web services tools and allows the retirement of the legacy CARS Expanded our web services to include all DAES-like information. Services have incorporated this information in service systems and developed web services so the information can be exchanged. We determined several years ago that since SAR and MDAP APB information is managed by OSD that DAMIR would be the authoritative source for this data. DAMIR version 3.0 includes a SAR and APB input capability. Allows for pre-populating through existing DAMIR information and also includes an updated computational model and cost funding worksheet. Before we can retire CARS needed solution for classified information. Very little of the SAR/DAES information is classified— approximately 50% of the MDAPs have some classified performance parameters and one or two have classified milestones. DAMIR mirrored on classified network and unclassified information will be transferred over. Only classified information entered on classified side. DAMIR 3.0 will have enhanced analysis and reporting capability supported through a COTS tool. Lynne will show you some of these during her demo.

5 Key Features Automated Approval/Release Process Import
Discussion/Comments Classified Data Indicators Search Alerts RSS News Feeds These are just a few of the new features that you will be introduced to over the next two days. Lynne will cover some of these in her demo.

7 DoD’s Initiative on Portfolio Management/Data Transparency
In advance questions to the Senate Confirmation Committee for the position of OUSD/AT&L on the subject of Open, Transparent and Common Shared Data Resources: “The Department needs better information tools for use in managing its portfolio of programs and in monitoring progress in program execution. The DAMIR system represents an effort to fill some of these gaps. If confirmed, I will review this initiative for any additional support or direction needed.” - The Honorable John Young I just thought I would put this little plug in for DAMIR. Mr. Young’s read ahead to the Senate Confirmation Committee mentioned DAMIR.
