Discuss the uses of the various types of artificial satellites Explain how the space shuttle and laboratories in space are used by scientist Appreciate the importance of space exploration.

2 Exploring the moon ON OCTOBER 4, 1957, A SOVIET ROCKET LAUNCHED SPUTNIK 1 INTO ORBIT AROUND EARTH. The Ussr dominated the space exploration until 1961, they sent sputnik 2 together with laika. On January 31, 1958, united states launched the spacecraft, explorer 1. Explorer 1 discovered magnetic radiation belts around earth called van allen radiation belts. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

4 National astronautics and space administration was created
In 1959, the USSR launched Luna 1, the first spacecraft to leave the Earth’s gravity. Followed by Luna 2, the first spacecraft that impact the moon and the first moon junk. In the same year, Luna 3 was launched and circled the moon.

6 On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin aboard Vostok 1 to travel in space and made him the first man to travel in space. Same year, USSR launched Venera 1 to fly Venus, marking the first interplanetary probe. Ranger 7, the first US unmanned spacecraft landed on July 28, 1964, followed by the Surveyor.
