What to consider: who is the author and are they an expert in their field? Who is the sponsoring organization or publisher of the website? Are they well know and respected? How to determine: Check the “about us” section; can you contact them? Check for expertise of reviews/ editors, board of directors….

What should you consider? Author – is the author an expert? What degrees and credentials does he/she have? Organization or publisher – ARE THEY TRUSTWORTHY AND BELIEVABLE? SEARCH FOR CREDENTIALS: WHAT DO YOU KNOW/UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS ORGANIZATION? What can you do? Check the ABOUT US section or BIO OF AUTHOR Check the credentials of the ORGAINIZATION or PUBLISHER REVIEWERS, EDITORS, BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Do I need the most up-to-date/current information? Attitudes of “the times” What can you do? Check the creation date, last updated, or COPYRIGHT DATE CHECK THE CURRENCY OF THEIR SOURCES

Can you find the other side of the story to balance your information? How to determine: Sponsoring organization or the author of the website – are they known for a certain point of view?

Fact vs. OPINIION Can you find OTHER SIDE of the story? WHAT IS THEIR MOTIVATION? What can you do? Check out who is hosting/sponsoring the site What is the purpose of their business? Are they selling something, do they stand to profit from your visit to their site?

11 Privacy Definition: Making sure personal information is safe and secure and being aware of how websites might use your information. What to consider: do they ask you to share personal information? How will it be used, shared or sold? Health and financial info you need to be most careful of! Is the site secure? Do they have a secure web-address? How to determine: look at and read the privacy statement on the website. Look for the https and the padlock symbol
