1 Unit 3 – Grammar Adjective clauses (形容詞子句)yo~

2 In English, sometimes we use an adjective(形容詞) to modify(修飾) a noun(名詞).
Ex: short hair tall building beautiful girls

3 Sometimes we use a phrase(片語) to modify (修飾) a noun.
Ex: the weather in fall (秋天的天氣) the birds in the tree (樹上的鳥兒) the fish in the river (河裡的魚)

4 The fish_________________ is blue.
Which fish is blue? in the water in the plate in the water The fish_________________ is blue.

5 Which eraser is yours? The eraser __________________ is mine. on the chair

6 Sometimes we use a clause(子句) to modify(修飾) a noun
Sometimes we use a clause(子句) to modify(修飾) a noun. In grammar(文法), we call that clause “adjective clause(形容詞子句)”. Ex: I thanked the girl who helped me. (幫助了我的那個女孩) In Unit 3, we are going to learn “adjective clause (形容詞子句)”.

7 Which woman is your mother?
The woman who is wearing a red coat is my mother. When we use an adjective clause, we must use “who” to replace(取代) “She” or “He” She is wearing blue jeans. She is wearing a red coat.

8 He is playing basketball.
Who is your brother? The boy is my brother. He is playing basketball. Combine (合併) the above two sentences. Then you have the answer. Remember to use “who”(not “he”). The boy who is playing basketball is my brother.

9 Who wins the game? The person wins the game. He(She) has the highest score. Remember to use “who”. The person who has the highest score wins the game.

10 Who knows a lot about movies?
My friend knows a lot about movies. He(She) collects DVDs. Remember to use “who”. My friend who collects DVDs knows a lot about movies.

11 Who likes to take photos?
The person likes to take photos. He(She) lives opposite(住在對面) my family. The person who lives opposite my family likes to take photos.

12 Who should use tissues(衛生紙)? People........ should use tissues.
They have colds and coughs. Remember to use “who”. People who have colds and coughs should use tissues. We always use “who” to replace “He, She, or They” in an adjective clause.

13 Who collects teddy bears?
The boy collects teddy bears. He sits near me in class. Now combine(合併) the above two sentences. The boy who sits near me in class collects teddy bears.

14 Who invents video games now?
A girl invents video games now. She used to study in my school. Combine the above two sentences. A girl who used to study in my school invents video games now.

15 Use an adjective clause to modify the word “someone”.
.....is someone who Ex: Sofia is someone who enjoys reading books.

fossils? Student A: Joseph! Teacher: Good. Now, let’s use “….is someone who….” to describe(描述) Joseph. Joseph is someone who is interested in fossils.

Student B: Terry! Teacher: Good. Now, let’s use “…is someone who….” to describe Terry. Terry is someone who collects seashells.

…..is someone who…… **Please describe(描述) a nurse.** A nurse is someone who works in a hospital.

23 Use an adjective clause to modify the word “people”.
