4 Conflict of Interest Disclosures
CE Session Planning For each presenter, faculty, discussant, responder, or panelist in the session you Must have: Abstract Content Learning Objectives Conflict of Interest Disclosures

5 Abstract Content Title Abstract
Each presentation or each response by a presenter/faculty/discussant/responder/panelist needs an abstract describing what will be presented. No mention of commercial entity brand names product or service or promoting a single or specific product or service. Contact Annette Ferebee if you have questions.

6 Bias – other than Commercial Bias
Bias can occur when a presenter or author inserts opinions into the educational content that is not fact based, and that may influence the participants learning of the content. This type of bias is not objective, fair or balanced, and thus it fails to meet the criteria for providing a CE worthy presentation.

7 Learning Objectives Each abstract needs at least one measurable SINGLE learning objective based on the presenter’s abstract. No compound learning objectives Use the following ONLY Explain, demonstrate, analyze, formulate, discuss, compare, differentiate, describe, name, assess, evaluate, identify, design, define or list. Understand or learn are not measureable objectives.

8 Conflict of Interest Form Statement
Each planner, moderator, organizer, presenter, faculty, discussant, responder, panelist must fill out the disclosure form that addresses three issues: Qualification Statement Conflict of Interest Statement Signature/Resolution

9 Qualification Statement
Each presenter MUST fill out the statement that describes their qualification for presenting. Good Example I am qualified because I have conducted research in the area of maternal and child health for the past 20 years and have given multiple presentations on the data. Bad Example I am qualified because I am a professor at XYZ University.

10 Conflict of Interest Statement
Each organizer, moderator, presenter, faculty, respondent, etc, MUST answer the Conflict of Interest Statement on the Disclosure form. “During the past 12 months have you, or your spouse or partner had a financial relationship that might potentially bias and/or impact content of the educational activity/session?”

11 Signature/Resolution
Each organizer, moderator, presenter, faculty, discussant, responder, panelist MUST sign the COI/Disclosure Form “Resolution: I agree not to promote any products, goods or services or to bias the educational content and to comply with the American Public Health Association Conflict of Interest Policy, Commercial Support Standards, as they become applicable to me.”

12 Commercial Entities A commercial interest is defined as “any proprietary entity producing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients”, with the exemption of non profit or government organizations and non-health care related companies. The following are not considered “commercial interests” : For profit hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes Liability insurance providers, health insurance providers, group medical practices

13 Outside Funding Source
If a presenter’s research/work/program was funded by a commercial entity as defined by accreditation bodies, COI should be answered “yes” and the entity disclosed. If a presenter’s research/work/program was funded by an entity that is not considered a commercial entity by the accrediting bodies but may be in conflict with APHA, COI should be answered “yes” and the entity disclosed.
