2 Introduction Monkeynastix is a fun, holistic movement education programme for children between the ages of 1 and 8 years. Monkeynastix develops health, fitness and social integration and contributes towards physical, cognitive and psychological well-being. It is a dynamic programme that is continually adapting and improving to keep pace with the demands placed on us by our modern lifestyle. Dion Chang, a renowned trend analyst, recently presented ‘6 Trends of 2016’ at a Monkeynastix conference. This provided us with insight into the challenges that parents face with the ever increasing sedentary nature of today’s youth and the growing importance of Monkeynastix in children’s lives. Monkeynastix is the pioneer of movement education in South Africa and internationally. Copyright 2016 Monkeynastix International (Pty) Ltd 01/01/2018

4 Our Programme Our creative and engaging approach to movement encourages children to learn and develop in a safe, FUNtastic environment! Movement activities make up an indispensable contribution to the development of children as a whole. It prepares them not only for their formal education but also their sport at school. There are 19 aspects of development that Monkeynastix concentrates on. Each and every Monkeynastix class/activity develops one or more of these aspects. However each and every Monkeynastix lesson will focus on a particular aspect for that class. (Please see a list of these 19 aspects and their definitions in the appendix). As all of the 19 aspects are developed to some degree in every Monkeynastix activity/skill performed, Monkeynastix in consultation with numerous experts in the field of movement education have identified 6 aspects that we have called “Monkeynastix Themes”. We focus on and have developed our lesson plans around these themes Copyright 2016 Monkeynastix International (Pty) Ltd 01/01/2018

6 How Does Monkeynastix Work?
Monkeynastix offers three separate curriculums for ages 1-2, 3-6 and 7-8. Why these age groups? Maximum window of Motor Development. Described as a period when learning of a new skill is easier and quicker than any other area in a child’s life. The maximum window of opportunity for fundamental skills such as gross motor and fine motor is between the ages of 1 – 8 years. After 7/8 years old, children enter the sport skill development phase of their lives. A qualified instructor will come to your school to run one fun-filled session per week. Sessions run for 30 minutes, and consist of the following: Warm Up: Body Positions, Music, Locomotion Activity Main Activity: The main pieces of equipment plus sub-stations Ending Activity: Fun, fun, fun! To get the maximum benefit out of our programme, our members are encouraged to complete at least one Monkeynastix cycle of two years. Please see below the lesson plan summary for the 1st term of 2016: Copyright 2016 Monkeynastix International (Pty) Ltd 01/01/2018
