The Tile Project! By: Edith Chen & Brenna Prince

2 10 ft. This kitchen has to be tiled everywhere except under the cabinets. We’ve made the cabinets into simpler shapes to make it easier to figure out the number of floor that will be tiled. Cabinets 2 ft. 8 ft. Cabinets 5 ft. 13ft. 3 ft. Cabinets 2 ft. 4 ft. 18 ft.

3 What is the area of the floor that will be tiled
What is the area of the floor that will be tiled? Include a plan/formula. To find the area of the cabinets you must take each cabinet/rectangle and multiple the width by length like so. The biggest rectangle/cabinets area the second biggest rectangle/ Is: x cabinets area is: x5 20 square ft square ft. the smallest rectangle/cabinet’s area is: x4 2 8 square ft.

4 To find the area of the triangle/cabinet you must follow these steps.
Imagine the triangle was a rectangle. Find the length and width of the rectangle. The length is 2 ft. and the width is 1 ft. The formula we used to find the triangle is length x width ÷ 2 the triangle/cabinet’s area is: x1 1 = 1 square ft. 2 -2 To find how many tiles you need to put in, you must find the area of the whole kitchen. x13 18 234 square ft.

5 Now we must find the total area of the cabinets in the room.
(Add all the shapes/cabinets’ area together) 20 8 10 +1 39 square ft. To find the area of the room (not including the cabinet space) we must subtract the cabinet space from the total area of the room. 234 - 39 195 square ft.

6 There are 195 square ft. to be tiled
There are 195 square ft. to be tiled. It takes about 4 minutes to install each square foot of tile. What is the number of hours that will it take to complete the job? 195 multiplied by 4 is 780 minutes. There are 60 minutes in a hour. 780 divided by 60 is 13 hours. It will take 13 hours to complete the job.

7 How much will you charge the customer per hour
How much will you charge the customer per hour? Remember it should be a competitive labor price or you will not get any work. We charged $20.00 per hour. We figured it might be a reasonable and a competitive price. We worked for 13 hours. x20 13 Our labor price for hours is $

8 What other cost might you need to consider?
We might need to consider: (t*195) + cement + trowel + mesh support + (mortar * 2) + miniature rake + labor t = a tile that costs t dollars per square foot How much will you charge the owner of the kitchen to install tile that cost $8.00 per square foot? There is 195 tiles in the kitchen and each tile costs $ * 8 =1,560. 1,560 + $ = 1,920 $ 100 is for the charge of the equipment We will charge the customer $1920 to tile the kitchen.
