Metrology-is the study of measurement Why do we need a standardized method of measurement?

Metric System Base 10 system created by Gabriel Mouton in 1670. 1790 France pushed for common measurement Most Countries in the World use only this system Customary System Primarily used by the US. Inches, ounces, miles, etc.

SI-comes from French Systeme International d’unites. Seven Basic Units. Meter Second Kelvin Kilogram Mole Ampere Candela

7 Length The basic unit for length is the meter
Use rulers and meter sticks to measure length 1 meter = 3.28 feet

8 Mass The basic unit for mass is the Kilogram
Use a balance or scale to find mass

9 Temperature The basic unit for temperature is either Celsius or Kelvin
Use a thermometer

10 Volume The basic unit for volume is Liter
Use graduated cylinders to measure liquid volume Length x width x height is also used to find volume

11 Time The basic unit of time is seconds

12 Converting Metric to Metric
If you are going from a smaller unit to a larger unit, you divide, or move your decimal point to the left.

13 Converting Metric to Metric
If you are going from a larger unit to a smaller unit, you multiply, or move your decimal point to the right.
