Sentara Healthcare is a 126 year old, not-for-profit, health system that serves over 2 million residents in communities all across the state of Virginia and in parts of north eastern North Carolina. Most Sentara sites are concentrated in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia in close proximity to their headquarters located in Norfolk, Virginia.

6. What’s unique about Sentara?
Patient portal
Sentara MyChart is Sentara’s patient portal that allows patients to request medical records, obtain needed forms for patient visits, view and pay medical bills
Patient’s can even get questions answered about a current, non-serious medical condition through their “e-Visit” option
Sentara MyChart also has a downloadable app and can be accessed within any Sentara Healthcare system site to allow easy communication between Sentara Healthcare providers to provide optimal patient care
In-house health insurance plan
Optima Health is Sentara’s own health coverage plan that includes consumer-driven, employee-owned and employer-sponsored plans, individual and family health plans, employee assistance plans and plans serving Medicare and Medicaid enrollees
High-tech patient protection
Sentara keeps patient information safe by incorporating a palm scanning system into the registration of their patients, providing the highest protection of patient sensitive information
