2 Cuban Missile Crisis After the USSR placed several close
range Surface-to-Air Missiles in Cuba, during one of many reconnaissance missions the USA discovered the surface-to-air missiles with a U-2 aerial plane.The soldier photographed the missile and with those photos the Cuban Missile Crisis began.

3 How many missiles were there?
In total there were 42 medium range surface-to-air missiles & 24 immediate range surface-to-air missiles

4 How many days was this Confrontation?
This Confrontation was 13 days long lasting from October 15th to 28th, 1962 Even though the Cold War last from

5 Why were the missiles sent to Cuba?
Cuba decided to pair up with the USSR and allow USSR to bring surface-to-air missiles into Cuba, and set up missile silos this was in response to the embargo and USA surface-to-air missiles being placed in Turkey.

6 Embargo On February 7th, 1962; The US put an embargo on Cuba.
And also put a blockade that way the USSR could not bring in any more supplies or military equipment This was the stepping stone for bringing the USSR and Cuba together.

7 What was the Biggest Confrontation?
Biggest confrontation came about after an American pilot flying a U-2 plane passed over Cuba on October 14th 1962 and photographed a Soviet SS-4 medium- range ballistic missile being assembled for installation

8 Who Was Fidel Castro? He was the Prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to He was able to capitalize on the Cuban Missile Crisis to consolidate his power and further promote his agenda. May 1, he announced an end to democratic elections in Cuba and denounced american imperialism he then declared himself a Marxist-Leninist and adopted a communist economic and political policies. He was humiliated because he was left out of negotiations

9 Nikita Khrushchev He’s motives behind partnering with Cuba was so he could he increase his nation’s nuclear strike capability. After the crisis was resolved he lost prestige and eventually stepped down from power claiming due to old age.

10 John F. Kennedy After weeks of debates in the capital Kennedy decided to deploy the U.S. Navy to establish a blockade of the island to prevent the soviets from delivering additional missiles and military equipment.

11 Teletype “Hotline” The establishment of a teletype "Hotline" between the Kremlin and the White House was an attempt to create better communication between the two countries. Another reason for it was because it would allow faster and less tedious communication Kennedy was the first U.S. President to have a direct phone line to the Kremlin in Moscow

12 Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
Part of the negotiations between the United States,Soviet Union, and Great Britain was the negotiation of the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. It was signed on August 5, This treaty prohibits nuclear weapons tests or any other nuclear explosion in the atmosphere, in outer space, and underwater but not limited to underground testing

13 Negotiations John F. Kennedy secretly agreed to remove US surface-to-air missiles from Turkey. At the request of Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and in return he would remove Russian missiles from Cuba. He also requested a promise from the United States to respect Cuba’s territorial sovereignty.

15 Review of the video None of the leaders really know what the other is thinking. They all think that the other wants a war. This is caused by the poor communication between the countries.
