If Israel would fulfill their purpose, they would be able to demonstrate the futility and falsehood of the fake god of the nations.

idolatrous society.

When a nation turns away from the Lord it not only reaps what it has sown and brings the judgment of God on itself, but the godly also suffer.

This further reminds us of the need and responsibilities that we have to function as light and salt to illuminate the darkness and preserve our nation from decay.
