27 All three deal with REPEATED SOUNDS
How are alliteration, assonance & consonance similar? All three deal with REPEATED SOUNDS in words, sentences, phrases or stanzas.

28 How is alliteration different from assonance & consonance?
Alliteration the repetition of the BEGINNING SOUNDS in multiple words. ASSONANCE OR CONSONANCE is the repetition of sounds INSIDE THE WORDS.

29 For alliteration to occur you must have more than one word, because each word can only have one beginning sound. Assonance and consonance can occur with just one word, if it has the same sound repeated in the word. ex: vivacious monotonous

30 How is assonance different than consonance?
Assonance is the repetition inside a word of VOWEL SOUNDS. Consonance is the repetition inside a word of CONSONANT SOUNDS.

31 BOTH CONSONANCE & ASSONANCE And just in case you were unsure…….

32 Player Piano by John Updike
My stick fingers click with a snicker And, chuckling, they knuckle the keys; Light footed, my steel feelers flicker And pluck from these keys melodies. My paper can caper; abandon Is broadcast by dint of my din, And no man or band has a hand in The tones I turn on from within. At times I'm a jumble of rumbles, At others I'm light like the moon, But never my numb plunker fumbles, Misstrums me, or tries a new tune.
