3 What is the School Games Mark?
School Games Kitemark Award… What is the School Games Mark? The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels. Last year, we gained ourselves a SILVER award. We are aiming to achieve the Gold award this time next year. 4 Sports day 2016 Last Years Sports Day was a fantastic Sporting day where all of our children at Carterhatch were joined by the Y2 children from the Infants school; taking part in a round robin of activities followed by EVERY child competing in a competitive race. Well done to everyone who took part and Thank You to all parents and staff who attended and made the day such an incredible experience for the children.

5 Football Team Our Football Team last year played competitive fixtures in the league vs other local schools with mixed results. This year, we have opened up our football After school clubs to Girls and Boys in Year 3/4 as well as for Year 5/6 and Girls Yr 5/6. We are forming a strong relationship with Pro:Direct Academy and Tottenham Hotspur FC which we hope will enable our children more opportunities to experience and play football both in and out of school.

6 Karate Our Karate after school club runs on a Wednesday. Children learn the discipline, control and art of self defense in a fun, safe and structured environment. Children can practise and go on to try and earn different gradings and earn their belts.

7 Multi-Sports Year 3 and Year 4
At our Multi – Sports After School Clubs, children learn the rules and key skills of different sports each week, improving their all round ability, understanding and allowing children the opportunity to explore and try new sports. We have introduced a number of new sports and events earlier this year linked to the legacy of the Olympics and Paralympics.

8 Tag Rugby passing, off-loading, and decision making ability.
Again this year we are hosting the league format Tag rugby is great for developing players running, footwork and movement skills. Tag / touch rugby is the non-contact version of the sport, requiring players to touch the opponent rather than tackle them.

10 Keep your wits about you in this fast paced and tactical game!
Dodgeball Keep your wits about you in this fast paced and tactical game! Children are taught the fundamentals of: Throwing Catching Dodging Once these are mastered, children will improve their hand eye co-ordination whilst learning how to play the game tactically.

11 Netball Good teamwork is essential for success in netball because the player with the ball cannot control the flow of the game and relies on their team mates to create opportunities. Players catch, throw and jump for a ball, and are required to run into and create space. It is about doing the simple things correctly every time. Not only is it fun, but it also builds fitness of the heart and lungs and is good for overall muscular development. Our girls team currently take part in the borough league competitions and play against other local schools at Kingsmead Secondary School.

12 Football Fine tune your technique in the following areas:
See yourself as the next Messi or Ronaldo? Fine tune your technique in the following areas: Controlling the ball. Running/dribbling with the ball. Passing the ball. Shooting. Once refined, children combine their skills with their ability to work in a team for a winning combination! This year, we have added a Year 3 and Year 4 club in preparation for the move to Year 5 and Year 6 where children have an opportunity to be selected for the school team and take part in the borough league matches and cup competitions.

13 Learn the basics before becoming a master.
Badminton Learn the basics before becoming a master. Basic Gripping Technique Learn how to hold your racket using the forehand and backhand grip. If you are not holding the racquet properly, you won’t be able to execute strong shots especially to your opponent’s baseline. Basic Footwork Good footwork allows good movement around the court. Learn the basics of covering the court to return your opponents’ shots! Basic Badminton Strokes Strokes are simply your swing action to hit the shuttle. If you don’t perform your strokes correctly, you won’t be able to execute quality badminton shots. Badminton Serve A badminton rally starts with the serve. Learn the correct techniques to deliver good serves. Good serves definitely give you an edge over your opponent right from the start of the rally. Basic Stance A good stance sets you up to defend and attack effectively during a game! Learn the offensive stance, defensive stance, and the net stance. You’ll find yourself at the top of your game when you use them correctly. Our Badminton Club is run by Mrs Woodhall, who, with years of experience playing and teaching; shares this with our children to improve their coordination, speed, reactions and understanding of the game.

14 Do you have the skills required to put on a performance?
Borough Festivals Both Dance and Gymnastics After School Clubs will be taking part in Borough Festivals later this year where they will compete against children from other schools. Do you have the skills required to put on a performance? Dance – In dance with Miss Valentina, the children will be learning lots of different performance skills and choreographing their own dance routines. Gymnastics – At Gymnastics children learn the disciplines of Vault, Floor Routines and Object Manipulation creating routines and performances ready for the borough competitions.

15 SEND Goalball, Guided Running and Tennis
We recently attended Lea Valley Athletics Centre to take part in the borough SEND Goalball, Guided Running and Tennis events. Our children did fantastically well and were rewarded with medals of achievement. We took two Year 6 Sports Leaders with us who encouraged and supported ALL of the children throughout the event. The children also met the British Sprinter Dwayne Chambers who said hello after his training session on the track.

16 The future… At Carterhatch, we offer a wide range of sporting opportunities for all of our children. We aim to promote a healthy and active lifestyle We continue to provide and promote a diverse extra curricular set of after school clubs and sports teams. We aim to enter into borough competitions, events and festivals in a competetive environment as well as providing opportunities for our SEND Children. We hope to build relationships and partnerships with local sports clubs and teams which provide opportunities to follow a sporting lifestyle away from school. We aim to build an even stronger relationship with the Infants school; including them in Sports day and other sporting events.
