2. What is IMCA ?
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is the international trade association representing companies and organisations engaged in delivering offshore, marine and underwater solutions

3. IMCA organization
Association which operates with a global focus via a structure of technical committees made up of experts elected from members
Good communication with company members via a variety of documents, a website and meetings encourages the sharing of experience, ideas and aspirations in the offshore industry

4. Competence & Training: core activity giving guidance on competence assurance and assessment, training and information on recruitment and careers in Offshore, marine and underwater engineering in order to prepare the member to submit to bids where competence insurance (ISM 9001) is mandatory even for submitting only

5. Actions of promotion
IMCA recommends ways to members to promote awareness in government, universities, colleges and schools of the employment opportunities available in the offshore industry to talented and skilled personnel.

IMCA ’s Offshore Survey Division is concerned with all aspects of offshore surveying, positioning and inspection work.

9. Survey activities CMID system
Recent marine accidents have highlighted that Safety Management Systems even robust do not work as they should be.
IMCA has a project to improve the « ownership » of SMS by the companies and the crews in order to decrease the risk of human factor in the offshore industry

10. How ?
For IMCA, a part of « vessel SMS assurance » process, an audit regime is one of the ways in which shortcomings in the system may be identified and a « continuous improvement » regime is supported.
This is similar to internal audit which are normally carried out by the member itself but will be carried out by inspectors coached by IMCA

11. What kind of principle
The IMCA provide the CMID inspector (Common Marine inspection document) who performs specific audit (stucture, management, surveys for all different type of mous) following a specific document endorsed by IMCA.

12. Participation of IIMS
IMCA has decided to delegate the accreditation of CMID inspectors to IIMS via a recruitment interview and a small training course.
