3 High School Courses Taken in Middle School
If you complete a high school level course in middle school you will receive a high school credit if you: Earn a passing grade in the course. AND Achieve level III, IV or V on EOC (if applicable). Courses will count toward graduation requirements but not the high school GPA.

PROMOTION 9TH to 10TH GRADE 6 Units of Credit (4 credits at Early Colleges and Academies) 1 English 2 of other 3 cores Math, Science, Social Studies 3 additional credits (1 additional credit at Early Colleges and Academies) COURSE LOADS Students are required to carry a course load equal to the number of instructional periods in the school day.

10 ATTENDANCE Wake County Board Policy At the secondary level cumulative absences above ten (10) in a block course (twenty (20) in a full-year course) are excessive. After five (5) days of accumulated absences in one or more block courses, (ten (10) in a full-year course) there will be school-determined, expectations- based intervention to help the student improve his or her attendance. The intervention will involve parents. After ten (10) days of accumulated absences in a block course (twenty (20) in a full-year course) and failure to meet previously-determined expectations, the student will be subject to failure, retention, or summer school. Up to 10 days per semester (EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED) More than 10 days = FF 2 absences in a block scheduled class is like missing 4 days of learning.

11 DRIVER’S EDUCATION 14 ½ Years old
30 hours in the driver’s ed classroom 6 hours actual driving DMV and DPI require that you pass 3/4 or 6/8 of classes each semester Drivers education is offered through a private contractor during after school hours, holidays and summer months. Information is available from site coordinators in each high school.

18 North Carolina Assessment Requirements
End Of Course - In all courses with an EOC (Math 1, Biology, English II), the EOC test shall count as 25% of the student’s final grade. In all courses with a NC Final Exam, the test shall count as 20% of the student’s final grade. In courses without a state assessment (teacher created exams), the final exam shall count as 20% of the student’s final grade. All students will complete a worksheet for their assigned school. Students will use the worksheet for their assigned school to complete the on-line registration process. Students will turn in handwritten and signed worksheet by February 28th. Students must have a parent-signed worksheet to complete the on-line worksheet.

Students will use their NcEd Cloud login (Power School) to register on line. All students should have claimed their account by now. Let me know immediately if you can not get into Power School. Students should not register until after the counselor work sessions in classes.

33 Selecting Courses in PowerSchools
Use registration worksheet to complete course selection. Follow the PowerSchools instructions provided. Select Core Courses first. Then select all other primary classes. (Total of 8) Select alternate classes. (Total of 3 or 4)
