Fibromyalgia Symptoms
Let’s Talk About Fibromyalgia Symptoms
5
Fibromyalgia - NK cell function study
Purpose of the study, performed in 2000, was to determine if fibromyalgia patients had decreased NK cell function. Subjects: 9 individuals were determined to be candidates for the study out of approximately 50 interviewed.
6
Fibromyalgia - NK cell function study
Criteria were to - • Have had pain in 4 quadrants for at least 3 months • Have severe and unrelenting fatigue • Have cognitive dysfunction • Have sleep disturbances • Have myofascial pain • Have not been on any nutritional supplements.
7
Fibromyalgia - NK cell function study
The subject’s blood was tested using variation of the 51 Cr release assay to determine the NK function. The NK function was reported as the percentage of cytotoxicity regarding the K562 target cells. The laboratory stated that any cytotoxicity below 20% was considered to be sub-optimal.

Fibromyalgia - NK cell function study
After baseline blood was drawn, subjects were placed on the following nutritional supplements. • Transfer Factor Plus 1 capsule, twice daily for 10 days 2 capsules, twice daily for 10 days • Fibro-AMJ Day-Time 2 capsules, three times daily • Fibro-AMJ Night-Time 1 capsule nightly • Choice 50 Antioxidant 1 capsule twice daily

Magnesium Function Magnesium is an essential mineral that has a hand in many vital body functions: • Activating more than 300 enzymes (chemicals that regulate a variety of body functions, including making body proteins and causing muscle contractions) • Aiding in the metabolism of fat and carbohydrate to produce energy • Providing energy for almost all metabolic reactions and processes • Ensuring proper nerve and muscle function, and keeping heart rhythm regular • Helping synthesize nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and proteins, which are the building blocks of body tissue
16
Magnesium Function • Participates in hormonal activity in the body
• Balances and controls potassium, calcium and sodium • Acting as an antidiuretic • Involved in transmission of nerve impulses • Promotes growth and repair • Helping keep bones healthy • Decreasing the risk of tooth decay by binding calcium to tooth enamel • Helping keep blood pressure in the correct range
17
Magnesium • Fibromyalgia has been linked to low RBC magnesium levels.
• A study involving 60 patients with confirmed fibromyalgia: 10 men with a mean age of 49.5 years and 50 women with a mean age of 42.8 years. Measures of RBC magnesium levels revealed a mean magnesium level of 4.49 mg/dL, lower than the laboratory standard of 5.5 mg/dL.

The Energy Crisis of Fibromyalgia
Essential role in the biological activity of ATP ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the main source of energy in cells, must be bound to a magnesium ion in order to be biologically active. What is called ATP is often actually Mg-ATP.
19
The Energy Crisis of Fibromyalgia
“Fibromyalgia at it’s heart represents an energy crisis,” points out Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, author of Pain Free 1-2-3: A proven Program for Eliminating Chronic Pain Now. He explains the FM is marked by a drop in Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, your body’s energy currency. Essentially, with fibromyalgia, your muscles aren’t getting enough ATP to function properly.
20
The Energy Crisis of Fibromyalgia
• A recent study found that ATP levels were 80% higher in healthy subjects than those with fibromyalgia. • Fibromyalgia sufferers have what is called “local hypoxia” which is an inadequate supply of oxygen to muscles, particularly at tender points. • Even though you are breathing in and out, your body is not effectively transporting that oxygen into the cells and using it to effectively metabolize fuel and make energy.
21
The Energy Crisis of Fibromyalgia
• First, it makes less energy, less ATP. In fact your body makes times the amount of ATP when it has oxygen than when you don’t have enough oxygen. • Second, and even worse, your body starts breaking down muscle tissue for energy production. Biopsies of muscle tissue from patients with FM have demonstrated this. • Third, your body produces lactic acid that builds up in your muscle tissues causing achiness and muscle pain.
22
Magnesium Supplementation
• The RDA for magnesium is between 320mg and 420mg daily. • The average consumption in the United States is around 250mg daily. • This translates into a daily magnesium deficiency of approximately 25% to 40%.
24
Magnesium Supplementation
Magnesium oxide has the highest elemental magnesium (60%), it also has a high stability constant, meaning that it does not dissociate, or ionize and is therefore poorly bioavailable. Gut absorption of the elemental magnesium is only 4%. 4Life® Fibro-AMJ Day-Time formula contains 200mg of magnesium oxide per serving of 3 capsules.
25
Magnesium Supplementation
At 60%, it contains 200 mg X 60% = 120mg essential magnesium. At 4% absorption, our product provides 120mg X 4% = 4.8mg magnesium. 200mg magnesium oxide provides 4.8mg of magnesium! You will find that Magnesium oxide is very common in poor quality supplements simply because it is cheap.
26
Magnesium Supplementation
Magnesium Chloride Supplements. Magnesium chloride (12% elemental magnesium) has a stability constant of 0 and is completely ionized across a large pH range, from 2 (found in stomach acid) to 7.4 (found in extracellular tissues such as blood and lymph). Magnesium chloride has the chloride part of its compound to produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach and enhance its absorption.
27
Magnesium Supplementation
200mg Magnesium chloride X 12% elemental magnesium = 24mg magnesium 0 stability constant = 24mg absorbed magnesium Magnesium oxide 200mg = 4.8 mg magnesium absorbed Magnesium chloride 200mg = 24mg absorbed (5 x 4.8 = 24) MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE DELIVERS 5X MORE MAGNESIUM!!

Lyrica - May induce sleepiness, weight gain, peripheral edema.
Savella - Similar side effects to Lyrica and Cymbalta plus insomnia, cardiac arrhythmias, and blood pressure abnormalities. Cymbalta - May cause depression and have suicidal risks.
