This is what we’ve found by snooping through the competition’s marketing of the Internet of Things There will be information missing based on the level of the research we’ve seen from each company as well as what they’ve given the public access to This could indicate Trying to keep their research agenda/taxonomy safe from competing firms They’re still figuring out how to frame their own research, but they’re definitely talking about it one way or another It’s not on their radar in a big way March 2017

2 Top Voice of the Enterprise (VotE) IoT Deployment Trends 2017
Pragmatism Rules: Organizations are pragmatic about IoT deployments & usage. Businesses use IoT for practical technology purposes: camera/surveillance work, end points. Staying the Course: Majority of firms continue to execute/implement current deployment strategies. Budgets: An overwhelming 90% of firms will increase IoT spending over the next months based on our Q2, Q3 and Q survey results - 60% by 25% to 50% or over 50%. IoT Deployment Impediments: Security is the biggest challenge for 62% of survey respondents. In IoT where devices, applications & people are interconnected, the attack vector is potentially limitless. IT Staffing Increases: A majority of firms are increasing IoT staffing levels and retraining current IT workers to perform key IoT administrative duties, especially around security and data analytics Network Edge/Perimeter Deployments Increase: Especially in Energy, Industrial IoT, Construction, Manufacturing, Mining, Retail, Transportation, Utilities et al. Data Retention, Storage & Analysis will be critical, particularly at the Network Edge/Perimeter IoT Skills Shortage: Approximately 46% of businesses say they face an IoT skills shortage versus 54% that say they don’t. Some 71% of IoT survey respondents will train their existing IT administrators on IoT security, while 50% will also hire new staff. IoT will be Disruptive: Some 8 in 10 respondents (80%) to this survey question acknowledged that the level of overall IT transformation required to support their business over the next five years will be moderate (51%) or significant (18%).

IoT Deployments remain strong and steady throughout 2016 and into 2017 to date Data Analytics is a primary IoT driver & use case: among two-thirds of IoT Respondents Cost of IoT Projects/Initiatives is the Top Concern according to 57% of those polled. As mainstream deployments increase, enterprises ask more questions. Security, Security, Security: IoT Security is and will remain a concern, challenge & IoT impediment Staying the Course: When it comes to IoT deployments corporations indicated they will continue to execute and implement existing deployment strategies. Enterprises will rely on Vendors & Professional Services providers for guidance as they undertake complex IoT Deployments. Some 45% of organizations indicate they will use third party Channel providers; Systems Integrators and Consultants.
