Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Federal law establishes minimum wage, child labor standards, overtime pay and record-keeping which requires the accurate recording of exact hours worked for non-exempt (hourly) employees Exempt and non-exempt (hourly) differences (teachers are exempt employees) Non-exempt employees are not allowed to “donate” their time (e.g. Instructional Assistants in the classroom, or office clerical staff) A d i s t r i c t o f e x c e l l i n g s c h o o l s 16

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS New Hire Benefit Eligibility – 30 hours per week
Log in to iVisions to enroll – required even if declining Complete enrollment within 31 days of the first day of work* Waiting Period: 1st of the month following 60 days of employment i.e. Hire date 7/20, benefits effective 10/1 District paid medical plan allowance covers full cost of employee only Health Savings Account or Base PPO medical plans Benefit payroll deductions 20 deductions; August – May, 10 month school site staff 24 deductions; July – June, 12 month year round staff * Failure to complete enrollment within the 31 days results in automatic enrollment in the Base PPO medical plan. Benefit Plans Offered Kyrene Employee Benefit Trust (KEBT) Medical Plans - United Healthcare – 4 plan options Base PPO* - $5,000 deductible, 80/20 H.S.A. Medical* - $1,500 deductible 80/20 Standard PPO - $500 deductible, 80/20 Premium PPO Buy-up – $200 deductible, 90/10 Medical plans include Rx, Behavioral Health and Health Coach, Bre Moro *Plans in purple are completely free for employee only coverage. The premium cost for these options are paid by Kyrene School District. Authorized Absences Full time employees accrue approximately 12 days (96 hrs.) per school year of Authorized Compensatory Absences, prorated to FTE. Sick days – Seven (7) days are designated as Sick Days Personal days – Five (5) days are designated as Personal Days Blackout Days - Personal Days may not be used: First five (5) instructional days of the school year The first instructional day of each quarter Veterans Day cannot be combined with a Personal Day(s) to create a four day weekend or longer The day prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday Friday of the Waste Management Open State-mandated assessment testing dates (excluding makeup testing) Last two (2) instructional days of the school year Restrictions - Personal Days are limited to two (2) consecutive days unless authorized by your Supervisor Blackout/Restricted day absences must be supported by the approval form, submitted to Human Resources, before compensation will be permitted: Personal Day Request Form Sharon A d i s t r i c t o f e x c e l l i n g s c h o o l s

Non-Accrued absence benefit: Bereavement Days
Authorized Absences Non-Accrued absence benefit: Bereavement Days Employees contracted to work 20 hours a week or more shall be granted compensated bereavement time not to exceed three (3) days per annum, prorated to FTE, where such an absence is necessary due to a death in the employee’s immediate family or employee’s spouse’s/partner’s immediate family.* If there is a need for additional time for bereavement, and an employee has accrued Personal and Sick time, the employee may use that time for additional days and additional time may fall under the application of Policy GCCC and must be approved by the Governing Board. “Immediate family” for this section only and 2(a)4 is defined as: 1) The spouse or domestic partner of the employee, 2) The children (including son-in-law/daughter-in-law), parents, siblings, grandchildren, or grandparents of the employee or the employee’s spouse or domestic partner; 3) Relatives living within the household who can be claimed as a dependent. Absence Reporting For School-Based Staff *
All school-based certified personnel must report their absences through the Absence Management system, even if a substitute is not needed. The system defaults to a full school day. Be sure to accurately report your absence hours. When a substitute is required, the sub will be paid a full or half day as required. Report absences as soon as possible! If it is after 6:00 AM on the day of your absence you must call Jean Gauthier in HR at (480) Blackout/Restricted Personal day absences will not be compensated unless they are supported by the approval form and received in Human Resources. *Note: Furlong-based employees report absences through iVisions Karla A d i s t r i c t o f e x c e l l i n g s c h o o l s

New school employees receive their Login ID, PIN#, and a link to the Employee QuickStart Guide via from Jean Gauthier in HR. Leave of Absence For absence from work under the following conditions, contact Human Resources to inquire about an authorized Leave of Absence. Mandatory Trainings Governing Board Policy, Federal and State laws require school district employees to be trained on important topics related to the workplace and students. Mandatory Training Modules include Sexual Harassment, Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting, and Bloodborne Pathogens, among others Kyrene offers this training online through the iVisions Portal 5 to 10 minutes to complete each presentation module Training Modules are completed by all employees annually in the fall, and for new employees during the first 30 days of employment Karla A d i s t r i c t o f e x c e l l i n g s c h o o l s
