Program Allocations Total Summer Youth Employment Planning Estimates:
Statewide - $69,700,602 Tarrant County - $4,311,327 65% of total allocation must be spent directly on youth wages/incentives

Program Description Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) will:
Improve employability skills Help youth make the connection between school and the workplace Provide financial rewards Secure private and public sector jobs for at least 700 youth who live in Tarrant County

Program Goals Establish work readiness programs to prepare economically disadvantaged youth for entry into subsidized employment Provide quality employment training worksites Prepare the youth to ultimately obtain productive unsubsidized employment

Program Design Both summer job seekers and employers are being recruited throughout Tarrant County Youth will participate in work-readiness training Motivated young job seekers will be placed based on their skills and interests Youth will receive at least minimum wage

Who Can Participate Youth from 14 to 24 years old who meet eligibility guidelines Cities, government, not-for-profit or for-profit businesses in Tarrant County Eligible worksites must not displace or supplant jobs Youth cannot work at swimming pools, zoos, or golf courses

Expected Outcomes Employers will benefit from highly motivated young adults in their workplace Youth participants will receive crucial career building opportunities Youth participants will gain job readiness training, work experience, leadership development and wages/incentives Tarrant County economy will be stimulated by the ARRA funds

Important Program Dates
Eligibility Screening begins in April and continues through the summer Jobsite recruitment is ongoing Work begins June 6, 2009 Work ends August 31, 2009

Next Steps Work with city departments to complete Employment Experience Agreement to become a designated worksite Each City department must complete a Worksite Application A youth job description must be completed for each position Board Contractor will contact the city for youth placements
