4. Overview
Planning is the cornerstone to effective learning but it can be one of the most challenging aspects of teaching.
Teachers Standards (DFE, 2013) define the minimum level of practice from the point of being awarded QTS.
Teachers standards which relate to planning are as follows:-
Plan and teach well structured lessons
Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time
Promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity

5. Overview
Set homework and plan out of class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired.
Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching
Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject areas.

Look at lesson plans
Focus on learning – what do you want the children to learn?

A good success criteria enables you to quickly make a decision about whether a child has achieved the intended learning and if not what are they finding difficult.
