Dress Code – Safety Glasses – Any time chemicals, fire or glassware is involved safety glasses will be worn. Long hair and loose clothing will be tied back if necessary. Jewelry will be removed prior to the lab. Do not wear your best clothes on lab days.

General Precautions – Carefully follow all written and oral directions. If in doubt ask the instructor.
No eating, drinking, or gum chewing is allowed in this classroom.
Keep things neat and clean.
ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING OR HORSE PLAY IN THE LAB!

First Aid – Report all accidents and injuries to the instructor.
The eye wash station, safety shower and fire blanket are located behind the instructor’s desk.
A first aid kit is located in the 2nd drawer of the desk at the front of the room.
A fire extinguisher is located near the unused door to the classroom.

4. Heating and Fire Safety – Never use a heat source w/o wearing safety glasses.
Never heat any thing unless instructed to do so.
Never reach across a flame.
Never heat a closed container.
Use gloves and tongs to pick up hot containers.

Chemical Safety – Never touch, taste, or smell a chemical unless instructed to do so.
Follow instructions when disposing of chemicals.
Splash and wash any chemical spills with cold water (H2O) immediately!

Glassware Safety – Hot! glassware looks just like cold glassware.
Always check glassware to see if it is hot.
Use gloves and tongs for hot glassware.
Never use broken or chipped glassware.
Never eat or drink from lab glassware.

7. Science Safety Rules End Of Experiment Rules –
Clean up work area and return all equipment to its proper place.
Dispose of waste materials properly.
Follow directions and always listen to the instructor! Talking and horseplay can be considered safety violations!
