3. What is SRE?
SRE is the life long learning about physical, moral and emotional development. It is the understanding of the importance of marriage for family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care. It is also about the teaching of sex, sexuality and sexual health.

4. Sex and Relationship Education
SRE forms a part of the whole PSHE Programme
There is a lot of overlap between the different areas
The key message is the well-being of the child
Parents have the right to withdraw
their child from elements of SRE

5. Partnership
Important to remember that parents are the first educators of the child.
Partnership is essential and our role as a school is to support you not replace you.

6. A Journey in LOVE The central message of the Christian faith is love.
“My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you.”
John 15:12

7. A Journey in LOVE
The journey begins right from the moment of our conception God is at the heart of love
Puberty can be a very confusing time, but even in the confusion, God is there.
The Sacrament of Marriage declares the commitment of each spouse to the other permanently in the acknowledgement that it is God-given.

9. Reception
Children know and understand that God has made them unique and that although we are all different we are all special to him.

Children know and understand that they are growing and developing as members of their own family and God’s family.

Draw a picture of my family
How old was I when I learned to crawl, speak etc.
How can I help at home?
We are members of God’s family

13. Year Two
Children know and understand that they are growing and developing in a God-given community.

14. Examples of Year Two Activities
What is community?
Explore school as community
How can we contribute to the community?
As children of God how should we help each other?

15. Year Three
Children know and understand the virtues essential to friendship e.g. loyalty, responsibility… and experience the importance both of forgiving and being forgiven and of celebrating God’s forgiveness.

16. Examples of Year Three Activities
Who cares for me at home, school, parish, community?
How do you keep safe?
How do you take care of others?
How do you feel if a friend is not there for you or you are not there for them?
How can I forgive and include others as Jesus did?

17. Year Four
Children know and understand that they are all different and celebrate these differences as they appreciate that God’s love accepts us as we are and as we change.

Recognise all pupils grow and develop at a different rate
Name male and female body parts
Identify the development of the baby in the womb
How do I appreciate my own and others gifts, talents, achievements and all that makes us unique

19. Year 5 and 6 All that I am scheme

In year 5 and 6 we have been advised to change the scheme to All that I am. This was felt to be a more appropriate scheme for children of this age, by the Diocese.

20. Year 5 Individual What children will learn:
that they are made in the image of God
That physical and emotional growth is common to all of us and a normal part of becoming an adult
To accept and respect themselves
This scheme for Y5 is split into sections, called:Individual

21. Year 5 Physical What children will learn:
That the difference between boys and girls is part of God’s creative and loving work
Vocabulary to describe menstruation
To celebrate the differences between boys and girls
This will be built on in Y6 when male maturation will be treated in more depth

22. Year 5 Social What they will learn:
What the Church teaches in relation to personal responsibility and dignity of the person
To take responsibility for their personal hygiene
How to manage socially awkward situations

23. Year 5 Emotional What they will learn:
How the church recognises the importance of our emotions and how they can shape our actions
To identify a wide range of feelings in themselves and others
To take responsibility and manage feelings appropriately
An awareness of the responsibility we have for each other

24. Year 5 Spiritual What they will learn:
That our spiritual relationship with God links together and transforms all aspects of our person
The basics of authentic friendship with others and God
When they do and do not feel comfortable with themselves
To identify when confidentiality is and is not appropriate

25. Year six Recap and reprise
What they will learn:
To recap on year 5
To reprise female development
Year 6 is also split into sections.

26. Year six Your changing bodies- boys
What they will learn:
To have knowledge and understanding of male physical development

27. Year six Personal behaviour
What they will learn:
To have self confidence and skills
To translate these into personal behaviour in a range of situations such as making new friends
Each session in Y5 and 6 starts with a gathering session called primetime. This is a sharing time when children gather together. The sessions
