1 Navigator 2.0 Best Practices and Benefits
Richard Pozywak Director of Information Technology LifeCare Ambulance Inc

2 Topics Benefits Implementation of Navigator
Reduce Radio Traffic for Dispatch Turn by Turn Directions Increase HIPAA Security Implementation of Navigator Best Practices Application Hardware Modems Computers Vehicle mounting

3 About LifeCare Ambulance
Located in Northeast Ohio Primary 911 Provider for an area that covers 100 square miles 4 cities and two townships 28 Wheelchair Vans Ford E-Series Econoline Vans 26 Ambulances Crestline Coach Fleet 6 First Responder Vehicles All vehicles GPS Tracked

4 Background 38 Vehicles with Navigator 17 Vehicles with Nomad
5 Vehicles with Garmin's Call Volumes Ambulance Division = 44,300 Wheelchair = 56,509 Standbys = 7,715

5 Benefits Reduce Radio Traffic for Dispatch
Dispatch Non-Emergency and Wheelchair Transports Crews update status through MDT GPS tracking for all vehicles Turn by Turn Directions for Crews Reduces chances crews getting lost Bing Maps Share Patient information via MDT, not over radios. Emergency Calls the crew calls enroute over the radio and dispatch repeats there traffic and gives them there cross streets. Once this completed the dispatcher doesn’t talk to the crew again until a check is done. The crew puts them at scene, transporting and complete. Also they place them enroute to post. Non-Emergency and WheelChair the dispatcher drops the call on them and the crew does all the updating through the MDT. Dispatch can track all vehicles with the MDT off or on through dispatch. We just recently had a truck stolen from a scene and dispatch tracked the truck through rightcad and was able to lead the police to the ambulance Crews can get there run number and times through the MDT to complete there paper work. If there is sensitive patient information over the MDT, with out broadcasting it over the radio. - Precautions Hospitals requiring crews to ID P/T’s by two idenfications

6 Dispatch Benefits With Navigation Dispatchers can monitor if the Navigator system is on or off line. In rightcad they can tell if the unit is green that there MDT is online. Red offline, Yellow MDT was online, lost connection. White does not have MDT.

7 Implementation Server Side Vehicle Hardware SQL Server
Application Server Proxy Server Vehicle Hardware Modems Computers Separate SQL Database and Application Server Proxy Server is used to limit internet connectivity to the MDT’s and also to provide Bing Maps, traffic and weather overlays

8 Vehicle Modem Sierra Wireless Modems Interface Pinpoint E & X MP597W
GX400 Modems Interface Support Garmin's

9 Vehicle Modems Data Plan Private Network – Data Link Network
Sprint 46 modems with all shared data plan Private Network – Data Link Network Radius Authentication 3DES or AES Encryption IPSec VPN back to Corporate Network Configurations Remote Access Streaming GPS to Navigator Application Server and to onboard PC Automatic Power down DNS Entry per Modem Wheelchair uses approximately 500MB of data per month.   First responder vehicles running 24/7 w/Garmin averaging approximately 800MB of data per months.    Aceview to manage Modems Ambulances running 24/7 and using the full Navigator client it is pulling close to 3.G of data.    Costing saving approximately $1, a month was to combine all of our data plans into one large pool and have all the trucks pull from there.

10 Vehicle Modem Antennas Multi-Band Antenna Placement Amplifiers
700/800Mhz Mhz 3G & 4G 2.4/5.8 Ghz WiFi Placement Cab or Box Amplifiers Mounting on box, low hanging areas they get ripped off.

11 Computers Panasonic Toughbook DLI Motion Tablet Garmin’s 8300 9000
All computers hard wire via Ethernet cable to modem. Installed a patch plate in dog house, so if the crews broke Ethernet cable only a short one was need to swap out. Touch screen and what is used for them.

12 Computers Security Windows XP Windows 7 Firewall
Steady State Windows 7 Group Policy Firewall Open Ports Needed for Navigator and GPS Streaming Automatic Startup of Navigator When cellular connectivity is lost the navigator changes colors.

13 Garmin Inexpensive Solution Requires FMI Data Cable Serial Connection
Not a full fledged MDT No HIPAA information is transmitted. User can not select post Great for wheelchair vans/first responders Chat messaging capable only to dispatch
