Presentation on theme: "CREATIVE WRITING FACTS Facts are things that are 100% true,"— Presentation transcript:

1 CREATIVE WRITING FACTS Facts are things that are 100% true,
everyone you ask will have the same answer. The sun is yellow. China has the biggest population in the world. Mr. Matt is from Canada, and Mr. Daniel is from America.

2 CREATIVE WRITING FACTS Facts rarely change.
(maybe China won’t always be the biggest country in the world) We use facts when we teach new things. If we have enough facts, we can usually guess about new things. For example, I love Italian food. So… I must love pizza.

3 CREATIVE WRITING FACTS
Be careful. Opinions are what one person thinks. Not everyone has the same opinion. FACT: Today the temperature is 21˚C OPINION: Today is hot. FACT: I love Italian food. OPINION: Pizza is delicious. FACT: An apple is a fruit. OPINION: You can never eat too many apples.

4 This term you are going to learn about factual writing.
CREATIVE WRITING FACTUAL WRITING This term you are going to learn about factual writing. You are going to use this writing style to teach us about many different things: your family, your favourite vacation place, what you do in your free time, and anything else you might want to teach us. Remember to stick to the facts. Saying that “Hawaii is beautiful” isn’t teaching us anything. If you have an opinion, give us evidence. Why is it beautiful? Facts are how we learn.

5 Today you are going to teach us about your family.
CREATIVE WRITING FACTUAL WRITING Today you are going to teach us about your family. No opinions. Tell us their name, what their job is, what they look like, their birthday, their favourite food/movie/ice cream flavour, etc. But do not tell us what you think about them, what their personality is like, or what they are good/bad at.

6 FACTUAL WRITING — DATES & TIMES
CREATIVE WRITING FACTUAL WRITING — DATES & TIMES Try to include at least one date/time for each person. For example, When were they born? When were they married? When do they normally wake up? When do they get home from school/work? When did they travel somewhere? When did they move? Think about your summer vacation homework.

7 FACTUAL WRITING — DATES & TIMES
CREATIVE WRITING FACTUAL WRITING — DATES & TIMES When you include dates/times, we can do that in many different ways: The bigger the time use “in”, the smaller the time use “at”. IN (year, month, season) In 1990, In the 1980s, In March, In the summer, ON (day, date, holiday) On Monday, On March 21, On the 21st, On Christmas Day, AT (time, part of day) At 9:30AM, At lunch(time), At night * In the morning/ afternoon/evening

8 CREATIVE WRITING FACTUAL WRITING
