Knowing what you know about Lochhead’s work so far and what you know about the term ‘The Last Supper’, try to predict what the poem will be about.
Write any predictions down.

7. TONE AND Mood board TASK 4
You are going to create a mood board for the poem.
This will be done by gluing pictures (from magazines, the internet etc), song lyrics, lines of poetry, shapes, blocks of colour or textures (material, ribbon, papers etc) to a large sheet of paper. (These can be collected as Homework).
You can attribute your choices to –
the overall mood of the piece
individual lines or phrases
images from the poem.
You will then present your mood board to the class and talk through your choices.
Be prepared to answer questions about your selections from your teacher and/or peers.

8. Puns and religious language
There are several puns in the poem which refer to the act of cooking and the state of the relationship/ the man in the relationship. There are also several examples of religious word choice/ imagery.
TASK 5 – CAROUSEL ACTIVITY
Working in small groups, you will be given a pun/ example of word choice.
You must give both sets of the meaning for it or explain the religious language.
You will have seconds to discuss and write down your answers.
You will hand your answers to the teacher, or perhaps into an envelope where they cannot be seen by the next group.
Groups should move round the room and repeat with each example.
Once all groups have discussed and written something for every example, the teacher will share all the answers with the class. (These can be written on the board by a ‘secretary’).
Whole class will then formulate the best explanation from all the answers given. (These can be added to notes).

9. Puns and religious language
For example –
‘Not just for Lent’
He is a treat to be given up, not just for 40 days, but for the rest of time.
‘the cooked goose’
Links to the idiom – ‘your goose is cooked’, the game is over.
Literally there is a cooked goose.
