Looking at the strengths and potentials that the DRC possesses, a question arises: Why Congolese tourism remains embryonic and is not being developed ?. The country recorded less than 300,000 international arrivals in 2014

WHY ?

Obstacles Several obstacles prevent the emergence of tourism in the DRC. These obstacles come from: The inconsistency of the legislative and regulatory framework (obsolete regulations, absence of law)…

The security drifts resulting in administrative and all kinds of police harassment, especially at the borders. This makes it difficult to establish reliable statistics. With the laxity of the administration, there is a difficulty to establish an efficient classification system. The weakness of the hotels infrastructures (Kinshasa only has 3 hotel with five stars). The promotional deficit in marketing and the lack of training facilities is a result of non-qualified personnel.

However, after crossing the desert, the Congolese tourism is arising. Since December 2014, tourism has been established as an independent department at the central government level.

This ministry will ensure the development of the Congolese Tourism, in collaboration with the different provincial governments. The resolution is now engaged to make tourism, a sector that generates revenue which is expected to contribute significantly and effectively to the creation of national wealth.

One of the major strategies to boost the tourism sector in the DRC is to look and analyze the successful experiences of other friendly countries. This explains and justifies the presence of our delegation to the present workshop in Johannesburg.

This comes and reinforces the partnership that the city of Kinshasa is developing for nearly two years with the Province of Kwazulu Natal with which it intends to enrich its experience in the following area: The development of a law framework in Tourism and various regulations The hotel rating system and the tourism sector in general The establishment of the Tourism Satellite Account
