2 Last Supper, Leonardo Da Vinci was an accomplished
Vehicles of the Future 5th grade Art Education Students in art class learned about, discussed and viewed the artwork of Renaissance Artist Leonardo Da Vinci. Although he is widely known for his realistic paintings, including the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, Leonardo Da Vinci was an accomplished inventor, scientist and writer. Students viewed some of the sketches, notes and facts about his life and inventions and then viewed some modern day engineers and their ideas for future vehicles. Students drew small sketches as they brainstormed for their final design choice. Through this art project, students understand contour line in drawing. Paint is applied using brushes and tempera.

4 mural boards were created.
All 5th grade art students experienced large mural design and painting. Along with the canvas mural, five smaller mural boards were created. Students began by redrawing their vehicle in contour line.

5 Students rotated in small groups to work under the supervision of artist, Joseph Pimentel.
Either working on their design or on the background environment, students participated in their personal contribution to the mural.

11 The Emerging Animal 6th grade Art Education Art students in the sixth grade worked collaboratively in small groups to recreate animal drawings in the artistic style of Hudson Valley Artist Joseph Pimentel. Filled with line textures, these animals seem to emerge from their environments. In their groups, students collectively enlarged a photo of their animal using a gridding process. This allowed students to accurately recreate the contour lines of the object in a corresponding box. Line texture was created with colored permanent marker. A lesson on value was incorporated as students worked to layer in watercolor paint.
