3 The Holy Spirit Alfred’s shock Alfred Nobel got a shock when he opened his newspaper. There was an announcement of his death. Curious, he began to read it. The writer praised his success as a businessman but said that he would be mainly remembered as the man who invented dynamite. The writer called him the “merchant of death” because of the people that dynamite had killed, including Alfred’s own brother. Alfred did not want to be remembered in this way.

4 The Holy Spirit The Prizes
Alfred decided that the only way to change the way people remembered him was to do something else. In his will he arranged for money to be given for 5 Nobel prizes. The prizes were given for : Peace (fraternity) Medicine Chemistry Physics Literature

5 The Holy Spirit How did Alfred use his talents?
Where do you think our talents come from?

6 The Holy Spirit Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is part of God. He is one of the three in the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is always involved when God creates something or does something in the bible. Christians see the Holy Spirit as being God’s creative energy. He is present at creation and during all the miracles. He also guides Jesus and, later, the disciples. Christians believe that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and that he can give us gifts. These gifts of the spirits cause other things to happen. These are the Fruits of the Spirit.

7 The Gifts of the Spirit The gifts of the spirit are:
Piety (respectful to God) Understanding Counsel (listening to God) Knowledge Wisdom Fortitude (courage/strength) Fear of the Lord

8 The Seven Gifts of the Spirit
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that after confirmation you will be given the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are: Piety (respectful to God) Understanding Counsel (listening to God) Knowledge Wisdom Fortitude (courage/strength) Fear of the Lord

A good way of understanding the Holy Spirit is that he is God’s creative energy. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we are given gifts which help us to be creative Christians.
