3 What place was most influential
during the Renaissance Period?

5 What had gone through many changes by the time Elizabeth became queen.

6 Religion – the official religion of England had changed four times in less than 30 years.

7 What was an important discovery during this time?
The period is described as a time of what?

8 It was discovered the world was round, not flat, and twice as big as what was thought.
It was a time of incredible turmoil: intellectual, religious, political, artistic

9 What was rediscovered during this time?

16 Characters: Duncan Banquo Macbeth Macduff Fleance Malcolm Donalbain
Lady Macbeth Lady Macduff Porter

17 Characters: Duncan King of Scotland, murdered by Macbeth
Banquo Prophesied to be father of kings, appears as ghost to Macbeth Macbeth Thane of Glamis Macduff Thane of Fife, untimely taken from his mother’s womb Fleance Banquo’s son who escapes murderers Malcolm Prince of Cumberland, heir to the throne of Scotland Donalbain flees to Ireland after his father’s murder Lady Macbeth planned Duncan’s murder, “unsex me” monologue Lady Macduff tells her son that his father is dead Porter drunken gatekeeper who is the source of comic relief

18 Identify the three apparitions (visions and their warning to Macbeth in a graphic organizer.

19 Apparition Warning armored head Beware Macduff bloody baby
None of born of woman can defeat Macbeth crowned boy holding a tree Macbeth will not be defeated until Birnum Woods marches on Dunsinane Hill.

20 Discuss the quote “fair is foul, and foul is fair” by explaining who said it, in what scene, its literal translation, figurative meaning, and significance to the play. Use supporting evidence from the play.

21 The witches chant this in the 1st scene of the play
The witches chant this in the 1st scene of the play. Literally, this states that what is good is bad, and what is bad is good which translates to a common truism we have today, “Things aren’t always what they seem.” This is a common theme found throughout the play. The news that Macbeth will be king seems like good news, but it turns out to be the beginning of his downfall. Lady Macbeth appears to be loyal to the king when, in fact, she’s planning his murder. The witches apparitions make it seem that Macbeth is invincible because he cannot be defeated until woods march up a hill nor can anyone born of a woman kill him. However, this was all clever truths or paradoxes to tempt his ambition for power and inflate his confidence.

23 The Résumé

24 What is a résumé?

25 What is a résumé? A résumé (also spelled resume) is a brief document that summarizes your education, employment history, and experiences that are relevant to your qualifications for a particular job for which you are applying. The purpose of a résumé (along with your cover letter) is to get an interview. Research has shown that it takes an average of ten (10) interviews to receive one (1) job offer, so your résumé needs to be persuasive and perfect. Given this, your résumé must be user- centered and persuasive.

26 What should be the length
of your résumé and important sections to include?

27 Résumés should be one page in length since readers take generally less than 20 seconds to look over it. The general purpose résumé usually contains five sections: Contact Summary or Objective Education Experience / Skills Awards, Honors, and Activities

28 What is the quadrant test?

29 The quadrant test Readers typically read from left to right and from top to bottom when information is "balanced" (about an equal amount of text and white space) on the page. Being able to anticipate the reader's response to a résumé in this way will allow you to manipulate information according to the quadrant test. First, divide your résumé into four quadrants, as seen in the example to the right. Next, scan the information for 20 seconds. The most important information should be in quadrants 1 and 2 since this is primarily what readers make time for. Image Caption: Résumé split into quadrants.

36 Sources can be cited through signal phrases or parenthetical documentation.
Signal phrases can be used at the beginning of the sentence with cited information to “signal” the source used. Example: Texas Reality Check ranks Houston as one of the highest paying cities for petroleum engineers. Parenthetical documentation can be used at the end of the sentence with cited information placed within parenthesis followed by the period. Example: Houston ranks as the highest paying cities for petroleum engineers (Texasrealitycheck.com).

37 What is a “Works Cited”?

38 A works cited page is placed at the end of research paper.
Works cited page lists all the sources used in the paper alphabetically, by author’s last name. If no author was given, the title of the article is placed first. Reverse indention is used for lines that do not fit on one line by indenting the 2nd line. The average source citation lists a website’s information in the following order: Author’s last name, First name . “Title of Article”. Website. Publishing Place, Publishing Company. Date of publication. Web. Date Accessed.
