Teaching

What is teaching? Something every human needs
3
What is teaching? Something every human needs
Something modeled by Jesus
4
Luke 2:46-47 “After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.”
5
Matthew 4:23 “Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom.”
6
Matthew 5:2 “He opened His mouth and began to teach them.”
7
Mark 6:34 “When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.”
8
Luke 5:3 “And he got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat.”
9
John 3:2 “this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher, for no one else can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
10
Matthew 28:18-20 Matthew 28:18-20 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
11
Deuteronomy 6:4-7 “Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
12
Titus 2:3-8 “Likewise, teach the older woman to be reverent I the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to too much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
13
Titus 2:3-8 Similarly, encourage young men to be self- controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned.
14
Why is teaching important?
It facilitates growth
15
Hebrews 5:11-14 “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

Teaching as a spiritual gift
You have noticed or others have told you that you have a natural ability to communicate in a way that people understand and that promotes true learning and change

Teaching as a spiritual gift
You have an intense desire to search out truth and to search out answers
18
Teaching as a spiritual gift
You have an intense desire to search out truth and to search out answers You feel compelled to point out errors – it just bugs you to see things incorrect and you want to fix them so badly!
19
Teaching as a spiritual gift
You know that teaching requires a ton of work, long before you stand in front of your audience – studying, organizing, searching for illustrations, making visuals, preparing

Teaching as a spiritual gift
You know that teaching requires a ton of work, long before you stand in front of your audience – studying, organizing, searching for illustrations, making visuals, preparing Sometimes you can be more focused on facts than on people
21
Teaching as a spiritual gift
Teachers can see when people “get it” and it brings you great joy
22
Teaching as a spiritual gift
Teachers can see when people “get it” and it brings you great joy Teachers often struggle with doubt, which only fuels them more to find truth and share it with others
23
Teaching as a spiritual gift
Those with the gift of teaching have a supernatural ability to communicate information in such a way that those listening and watching cannot help but learn and be motivated to live out the truths that have been taught.
24
Romans 12:6-7 “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach.
25
1 Corinthians 12:28 “And in the church, God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with the gift of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.”
26
Ephesians 4:11-13 “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s peoples for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
