1 Lizzy, Olivia, Brenda, Kyla
Warm Bodies Lizzy, Olivia, Brenda, Kyla

2 Plot R saves Julie and brings her back to the airport (zombie’s home)
Julie leaves R and goes back to the stadium, and R, afraid that Julie is in danger, goes after her When R gets into the stadium, he turns a guard and the stadium erupts into chaos – army of zombies outside and skeletons are coming to attack R regains his pulse and starts bleeding again; “half-dead”/”nearly living” are allowed into the stadium as they start to cure themselves Ends with hopeful attitude that all zombies can be cured

3 Conflicts Zombies vs. skeletons Humans vs. zombies/skeletons
Skeletons don’t want change; willing to kill zombies to keep things the same Humans vs. zombies/skeletons Zombies/skeletons attack humans; humans defend themselves and want zombies gone for good Humans and zombies vs. skeletons Humans and zombies team together in the end of the book to defeat the skeletons and protect their people

4 Settings zombies/skeletons have made their home in an airport just ouside the city Still have weddings, schools (teaching the ‘children’ how to take down and efficiently eat/kill humans), and a church Most surviving humans in the nearby area are living in the ‘stadium’ Have set up own society with curfew, rules, ‘gov’t’, etc. Surrounded by a guarded wall and running low on resources

5 Characters R Julie Perry M Julie’s dad (Grigio)
Zombie; still mentally functioning; becomes almost addicted to reliving Perry’s memories through eating his brain “I understand that I love her. And if she is everything, maybe that’s answer enough.” – R, pg. 223 Julie Human; has a past of lots of drug use; on/off relationship with Perry; strong, stubborn, brave, scared; unsure about the nature of zombies (even before meeting R) Perry Human; on/off relationship with Julie; lost his sense of optimism and hope; possibly suicidal; is killed by R; in his ‘memories’, gives R lots of advice and information “You and I are victims of the same disease.” – chapter 13 M Zombie; R’s best friend; loyal to a fault; helps R and Julie escape from the stadium; changes along with R (more slowly); wants more out of life Julie’s dad (Grigio) Human; hates zombies; wants to protect the humans at all cost; unwilling to believe that the zombies can change

6 Writing Style Main theme of change, undertone of love and death.
Written in first person, mainly from R’s point of view. Marion uses a lot of Symbolism (Names) Has a fairly informal and casual use of dialect and tone Uses lot’s of details, lot’s of sensory information. Makes use of Allusion Epigraph

7 Epigraph A phrase, quote, poem at the beginning of a written work that provides foreshadowing, a summary or a preface to the work. “You have known, O Gilgamesh, “…” What interests me, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet III, To drink from the Well of Immortality, lines 147, 153, 154, 278, 279 Which means to make the dead Rise from their graves And their prisoners from their cells The sinners from their sins. I think love’s kiss kills our heart of flesh. It is the only way to eternal life, Which should be unbearable if lived Among the dying flowers And the shrieking farewells Of the overstretched arms of our spoiled hopes.” -Hebert Mason, Gilgamesh: A Verse Narrative
