1 December 8th, 2016 Aim: What does it mean to “Read Closely”?
Do Now: On the handout, respond to the question. “Did you ever do something wrong and try to cover up what you did? Have you ever told a lie to cover it up? Did you tell another lie to cover that lie up? How did that make you feel?” Explain the time and your feeling.

7 Close Reading Analysis
Group 1 Setting: narrator is stating facts of the story Takes place in a neighborhood Houses are close together The dog is roaming the neighborhood when it should not be Doberman stereotyped as cruel Religion reference = morals and values to come? Group 2 Dog returns to its owners carrying the dead rabbit Owners want to keep the dogs reputation in good standing They believe the dog killed the rabbit They clean it up and put it back in its cage (cover up)

8 Group 3 The morning after, the owners of the rabbit shriek and the owners of the dog hear them Rabbit owners are surprised b/c the rabbit was buried two days ago The dog owners are silent

9 Questions Who is the speaker? What is the main conflict?
How is the problem solved? A neighbor Neighbors dead rabbit brought home by the dog (Doberman.) Neighbor cleans up the rabbit and acts like nothing happened.

10 Questions Continued What is the outcome?
Do you think the decision the dog’s owners made was the best outcome? What is the theme? The rabbit was never killed by the dog (irony) it was already dead. Opinion People should be honest and upfront with others.
