1 Biolab III, 2017 Requirements for credit points: Regular and active attendance at the course is a prerequisite for receiving credit points. Other (graded) requirements include: Answers of exercise questions on pages 25 and 31 in the form of short written answers (you will return the answers in MyCourses) Written and oral reporting of the results (experiments 1 and 2) An exam (held during the course) Laboratory book (held individually) Grading: Fail, 1 – 5. Grading is based on attendance (10%), completion of the experimental work and reporting of results (70%) and assignments (20%).

2 A short exam on Friday, March 31st 14-16
Deadline for submission of the lab manual exercises (done individually, returned in MyCourses): Page 25: Sunday March 12th Page 31: Sunday April 2nd Short presentations of the methods used specifically in the yeast experiment: Tuesdays, March 21st and March 28th Discussion of results from experiments 1 and 2 (= oral reporting) - on examination week? - Presented in pairs, topics distributed later •Deadline for submission of written reports: a week after oral reporting - E. coli work: report written in pairs or individually - Yeast work: report written individually

3 Laboratory work in project 1 (BioBricks/E. coli):
Preparation of two different plasmids Preparation of competent cells for transformation Transformation of the plasmids into strains Evaluation of the expression cassettes With Cytation machinery (GFP production) With colony PCR and/or digestions (verification of the presence of the GFP expression cassette in the plasmids)
