4. MGA Operations Manual Para 9.2 AREAS
A. Definition: An Area is a part of a Region, consisting of several Sections, states, provinces, or countries which may be established by the Region Committee as a management and administrative organization unit of IEEE to fulfill the communications needs and management/administrative missions of the Region within the territory prescribed.
1. Term is a one- or two-year term during term of the Director
2. The Area Chair acts on behalf of and at the direction of the Region Director on specific assignments related to the management and administration of the Region.
3. The Area Chair(s) may serve on the Region Committee with the approval of the Region Committee

6. REGION 5 SOUTH AREA CHAIR

A. Responsible for the oversight of 6 Texas Sections in the South Area: Central Texas, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Galveston Bay and Houston

7. REGION 5 SOUTH AREA CHAIR
B. Assist these Sections with timely information, Training and Resources, available from the Region and National organizations for the benefit of the Section IEEE members.
C. Coordinate Section, Region and National Policies and Procedures, administration and financial Reporting and to assure the Sections remain viable to support their members.

8. REGION 5 SOUTH AREA CHAIR
D. The South Area Chair performs the following duties to accomplish these responsibilities.
1. Region support by administering the Region’s Policies and Procedures with regard to Sections.
2. Region-Section Communications
3. Section, Chapter, Branch Support by assisting and encouraging each section to develop and maintain a healthy administrative structure with operating procedures, a strategic plan and required documentation.
4. Personal section visits and participation in ExCom, General and Special Section meetings and activities.

9. REGION 5 SOUTH AREA CHAIR
E. The Region 5 Area Chairman are the conduit between the Sections and Region for Communications, Resources and Administrative support to assure long term success of IEEE Member Activities in the geographical area assigned.

10. REGION 5 SOUTH AREA CHAIR

Coordinate Area Student Paper Contest
Coordinate the Area selection of Student Paper Winner
Update Area Chair Orientation Manual
Develop One and Three Year Goals
Respond to Sections, Student Branches and Counselors’ inquiries on IEEE activities.
