1 Student Health and Counseling (SHAC)
The University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) | shac.unm.edu Hello and introduce yourself…… SHAC, accredited by one of the highest accreditation groups in the country, has a mission to provide busy students access to affordable medical and counseling care. The idea is if we can keep our students healthy, they will be more successful in their academic careers. If you are a parent that is not from Albuquerque, know that our skilled, professional medical staff are here to take care of your child. Our staff solely focuses on, and is trained in, college health and works diligently with other departments on campus to ensure students are holistically healthy. In addition, we have an after hour call center that your child can access after business hours. While we are a completely confidential clinic, please know that if your child signs a waiver, we can share information with you, but they have to agree first.

2 SHAC Location and Hours
Academic School Year Hours Monday-Thursday 8:00am – 5:30pm Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm SHAC is located north of Johnson Gym and East of the student union building. We have temporary patient parking behind our building for student appointment use. For more information on After Hour care, please check out website for detailed information. *Hours are subject to change, please check website for updates. After Hours: Call SHAC and choose; Option 2 for Medical Care or Option 3 for Mental Health Services

3 Student Friendly Services
All currently enrolled students can be seen at SHAC. All UNM students are welcome! SHAC staff is committed to serving UNM’s diverse community. SHAC is a Safe Space for all LBGTQ and DREAM TEAM students. SHAC is committed to serving our students ensuring that they feel welcomed and safe! Therefore, we do not care what ethnicity, race, gender identification, height, weight, etc. a student is. If your child needs to see us, we are here for them!

4 Features and Benefits SHAC offers many services in one convenient location! Insurance is not required to see a medical provider at SHAC, however we do take a variety of insurance plans. Because SHAC is partially funded by student fees, our fees are generally lower than community rates $15 visits, come again?  Read off slide.

7 Recommended Vaccinations Allergy and Immunization
Before your child attends UNM: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Meningococcal (Meningitis) Varicella (Chicken Pox) Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis (Tdap) Influenza (Flu) Allergy Shots College is a time where students are in extremely close proximity of health other. Having these mentioned vaccinations can prevent your child from becoming ill while attending school. If you child chooses to travel through out their time here at UNM, our A&I clinic can provide services such as travel health planning, additional immunizations, anti malaria medications, and international certificated of vaccination.

8 Mental Health Services
Assessments Emergency/ Urgent Care Group Workshops Counseling Individual and Group Psychiatry Our counseling staff consists of counselors, psychologists, and social workers. Students often get homesick, stressed out, and need someone to talk to. Our mental health providers can help! Also on our website our screening tools to help students decide if they need to see someone to talk to.
