3 Differences Between High School and Middle School
Grades do not count as credits Promotion is by grades or summer school Grades become credits that are required for graduation Must earn 26 required credits for graduation Less restrictive-- more freedom More responsibility Differences Between High School and Middle School

4 How Do I Earn a Credit? A student earns a credit when he or she successfully completes a course by earning a minimum grade of 70 and being in attendance 90% of the time. Students earn a half credit for each successfully completed semester class. Students must earn a particular number of credits to be promoted to the next grade and to graduate. If you fail a class required for graduation, you must take it over again until you pass it!

A student must achieve a satisfactory score on 5 STAAR End Of Course assessments Successfully complete 26 required units of credit Complete an endorsement

Take courses that will best prepare student for his/her future Help make an educated informed decision when choosing future career path Helps the student build skills toward college and or career choices. Allows the student to earn certifications while still in high school.

14 HOW CAN I EARN COLLEGE CREDIT ?

15 Top 10% Rule Students ranking in the top 10% of their
graduating class must be admitted to the Texas public college or university of their choice if they: Apply no later than two years after graduation from a Texas High school and Submit a completed application before the expiration of any filing deadline established by the college.

17 To “Pre-AP/AP” or not to “Pre-AP/AP”?
Remember: Pre-AP courses go into more depth than other courses Student may need to work harder Student may need to spend more time preparing Overall grades may go down because course is more rigorous Student will get weighted grade points to raise Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) Summer reading may be required in some courses Student will be more prepared for Advanced Placement (AP) courses Student will be more prepared for college Talk to your parents and teachers to determine if PAP/AP is right for you

Log into your Skyward account Click on Schedule tab on left On right click on “view requests for17-18” Choose courses (7 credits) Close window and your courses are saved

59 Reminders Make sure you have chosen a CAREER Focus Choose your goals
Make sure you have signed up for SEVEN (7) credits Parents will need to sign their names on the Four Year Plan/ PGP Parents need to sign AP Contract if you are taking an AP or PAP class Talk with your core / elective teachers about courses to take. Choose alternate courses in case scheduling conflicts occur or the course does not make. Write these in the spaces. If you re going to participate in athletics, you will have to have a physical. The Course Selection sheet and Four Year Plan /PGP sheet is due to your SCIENCE teacher on Wednesday, February 8th !
