2 System Management Bus - ACK and NACK usage
There are the following differences in the use of the NACK bus signaling:

3 System Management Bus - ACK and NACK usage
In I²C, a slave receiver is allowed to not acknowledge the slave address, if for example it's unable to receive because it’s performing some real time task

4 System Management Bus - ACK and NACK usage
This difference in the use of the NACK signaling has implications on the specific implementation of the SMBus port, especially in devices that handle critical system data such as the SMBus host and the SBS components.

5 Theory of constraints - Unacknowledged debt
says that TOC borrows heavily from System dynamics|systems dynamics developed by Jay Forrester|Forrester in the 1950s and from statistical process control which dates back to World War II. And Noreen Smith and Mackey, in their independent report on TOC, point out that several key concepts in TOC have been topics in management accounting textbooks for decades.

6 Theory of constraints - Unacknowledged debt
People claim Goldratt's books fail to acknowledge that TOC borrows from more than 40 years of previous management science research and practice, particularly from Program Evaluation and Review Technique|PERT/Critical path method|CPM and Just-in-time (business)|JIT

7 Break (work) - Snack breaks
'Snack breaks' are usually shorter than meal breaks, and allow an employee to have a quick snack, or to accomplish other personal needs. Similar types of breaks include restroom and smoke breaks.

8 Break (work) - Snack breaks
These breaks are also required in the state of California; one minute break for every 3.5 hours worked. A few other states have similar laws, but most do not.

Some employers allow employees to stop their work for short durations at any time to take care of these needs.

10 Snack A 'snack' is a portion of food often smaller than a regular meal, generally eaten between meals. Snacks come in a variety of forms including packaged and processed foods and items made from fresh ingredients at home.

11 Snack A beverage may be considered a snack if it possesses a substantive food item (e.g., strawberries, bananas, kiwis) that has been blended to create a smoothie.

12 Snack Plain snacks like plain cereals, pasta, and vegetables are also mildly popular, and the word 'snack' has often been used to refer to a larger meal involving cooked or leftover items. Six-meal eating is a form of eating that incorporates healthy snacks in between small meals, to stave off hunger and promote weight loss.

13 Snack A snack eaten shortly before going to bed or during the night may be called a midnight snack.

14 Snack - Nutritional concerns

83 In most countries Knackery premises are regulated by law.

84 Knacker A horse carcass, rendered, had many uses. In the U.S., the meat could end up in the food at a mink ranch or fox farm, or a greyhound race track, or for pet food, or to a pig farm. Bones were ground up for bone meal fertilizer. Hides went to leather and joints processed to make glue for the furniture and paper trades (hence the idea of old horses being sent to the glue factory).

85 Knacker However, in modern usage, especially in Ireland, the word has come to describe both those from lower-class backgrounds who tend to engage in anti-social behaviour, as well as those of an Irish Traveller background. In this sense, the usage of the word knacker is akin to the usage of the term chav in England and Ned (Scottish)|ned in Scotland. Members of the travelling community in Ireland live in what would ordinarily be considered temporary accommodation, such as roadside trailers or caravans.

86 Knacker The word knacker was first used in It is from the Scandinavian word represented by O.N. hnakkur saddle and hnakki back of the neck.

87 Knacker - Use of term The Slaughterhouses Act 1974, the Meat (Sterilisation and Staining) Regulations 1982, and the Food Act 1984 all define a knacker's yard as any premises used in connection with the business of Animal slaughter|slaughtering, skinning or butcher|cutting up animals whose flesh is not intended for human consumption.[ Food Act 1984], legislation.gov.uk

88 Knacker - Use of term In the past this deterred people from entering the trade but in modern times knackeries have become profitable businesses.

129 Gorgias (dialogue) - The question of techne: art vs. knack
Socrates and Polus debate whether rhetoric can be considered an art. Polus states that rhetoric is indeed a craft, but Socrates replies, To tell you the truth, Polus, I don't think it's a craft at all (462b). The dialogue continues:

130 Gorgias (dialogue) - The question of techne: art vs. knack
SOCRATES: Yes, I do, unless you say it's something else.

131 Gorgias (dialogue) - The question of techne: art vs. knack
SOCRATES: For producing a certain gratification and pleasure (462c).

132 Gorgias (dialogue) - The question of techne: art vs. knack
Socrates continues to argue that rhetoric is not an art, but merely a knack: …it guesses at what's pleasant with no consideration for what's best. And I say that it isn't a craft, but a knack, because it has no account of the nature of whatever things it applies by which it applies them, so that it’s unable to state the cause of each thing (465a).

133 Poor Richard's Almanack
'Poor Richard's Almanack' (sometimes Almanac) was a yearly almanac published by Benjamin Franklin, who adopted the pseudonym of Poor Richard or Richard Saunders for this purpose. The publication appeared continually from 1732 to It was a best seller for a pamphlet published in the American colonies; print runs reached 10,000 per year.Oracle ThinkQuest (2003)

134 Poor Richard's Almanack
Almanacks were very popular books in History of the United States ( )#Declaration of Independence|colonial America, offering a mixture of seasonal weather forecasts, practical household hints, puzzles, and other amusements. The History Place (1998) Poor Richard's Almanack was also popular for its extensive use of wordplay, and some of the witty phrases coined in the work survive in the contemporary American vernacular.Innovation Philadelphia (2005)

135 Poor Richard's Almanack - Content
Franklin also included the occasional mathematical exercise, and the Almanack from 1750 features an early example of demographics

136 Poor Richard's Almanack - Content
In the spaces that occurred between noted calendar days, Franklin included proverbial sentences about industry and frugality

137 Poor Richard's Almanack - Poor Richard
In the early editions of Poor Richard's Almanack, predicting and falsely reporting the deaths of these astrologers—much to their dismay—was something of a running joke

138 Poor Richard's Almanack - Poor Richard
In later editions, the original Richard Saunders character gradually disappeared, replaced by a Poor Richard, who largely stood in for Franklin and his own practical scientific and business perspectives. By 1758, the original character was even more distant from the practical advice and proverbs of the almanac, which Franklin presented as coming from Father Abraham, who in turn got his sayings from Poor Richard.Ross (1940), pp. 791–794

139 Poor Richard's Almanack - History
Franklin began publishing Poor Richard's Almanack on December 28, 1732,Independence Hall Association (1999–2007) and would go on to publish it for 25 years, bringing him much economic success and popularity. The almanack sold as many as 10,000 copies a year.Oracle ThinkQuest (2003) In 1735, upon the death of Franklin's brother, James, Franklin sent 500 copies of Poor Richard's to his widow for free, so that she could make money selling them.

140 Poor Richard's Almanack - Serialization
Nevertheless, the ruse had its desired effect: people purchased the Almanack to find out who was correct.Laughter (1999–2003)

141 Poor Richard's Almanack - Criticism
For some writers the content of the Almanack became inextricably linked with Franklin's character—and not always to favorable effect. Both Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville caricatured the Almanack—and Franklin by extension—in their writings, while James Russell Lowell, reflecting on the public unveiling in Boston of a statue to honor Franklin, wrote:

142 Poor Richard's Almanack - Criticism
... we shall find out that Franklin was born in Boston, and invented being struck with lightning and printing and the Franklin medal, and that he had to move to Philadelphia because great men were so plenty in Boston that he had no chance, and that he revenged himself on his native town by saddling it with the Franklin stove, and that he discovered the almanac, and that a penny saved is a penny lost, or something of the kind.Miles (1957), p. 141.

143 Poor Richard's Almanack - Criticism
The Almanack was also a reflection of the norms and social mores of his times, rather than a philosophical document setting a path for new-freedoms, as the works of Franklin's contemporaries, Thomas Jefferson|Jefferson, John Adams|Adams, or Thomas Paine|Paine were

144 Poor Richard's Almanack - Criticism
Franklin also borrowed—apparently without asking—and adapted the title of an almanac his brother James Franklin (printer)|James Franklin was publishing at Newport: Poor Robin's Almanack (itself appropriated from a seventeenth-century almanac published under the same title in London).Brands, H

145 Poor Richard's Almanack - Cultural impact
The Almanack was also twice translated into French, reprinted in Great Britain in broadside (printing)|broadside for ease of posting, and was distributed by members of the clergy to poor parishioners

146 Poor Richard's Almanack - Cultural impact
Later writers such as Noah Webster were inspired by the almanack, and it went on to influence other publications of this type such as The Old Farmer's Almanac.Kneeland et al

466 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
The Scandinavian näcken, näkki, nøkk, strömkarl,Or strömkarl (singular), per Grimm 1835:17:11

467 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
If properly approached, he will teach a musician to play so adeptly that the trees dance and waterfalls stop at his music.

468 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
It is difficult to describe the actual appearance of the nix, as one of his central attributes was thought to be shapeshifting

469 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
The enthralling music of the nøkken was most dangerous to women and children, especially pregnant women and baptism|unbaptised children. He was thought to be most active during Midsummer's Night, on Christmas Eve and on Thursdays. However, these superstitions do not necessarily relate to all the versions listed here, and many if not all of them were developed after the Christianizing of the Northern countries, as were similar stories of faeries and other entities in other areas.

470 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
When malicious nøkken attempted to carry off people, they could be defeated by calling their name; this, in fact, would be the death of them.Francis James Child, The English and Scottish Popular Ballads, v 1, p 95-6, Dover Publications, New York 1965.

471 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
If you brought the nøkken a treat of three drops of blood, a black animal, some brännvin (Scandinavian vodka) or snus (wet snuff) dropped into the water, he would teach you his enchanting form of music.

472 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
The nøkken was also an omen for drowning accidents. He would scream at a particular spot in a lake or river, in a way reminiscent of the loon, and on that spot a fatality would later take place. He was also said to actually cause drownings, but swimmers could protect themselves against such a fate by throwing a bit of steel into the water.

473 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
In the later Romantic folklore and folklore-inspired stories of the 19th century, the nøkken sings about his loneliness and his longing for salvation, which he purportedly never shall receive, as he is not a child of God

474 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
quote|Where by the marishes boometh the bittern,

475 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
Neckar the soulless one sits with his ghittern.

476 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
Waiting his destiny, - Neckar the soulless.

477 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
(The source has bloometh for boometh, but this is clearly an error; a bittern is not a plant, but a bird, and it is known for its booming call. A ghittern is a guitar. The spelling Nickar vice Neckar is sometimes used.)

478 Neck (water spirit) - Näck, Nøkk
In Scandinavia, Nymphaea alba|water lilies are called nix roses (näckrosor/nøkkeroser). A tale from the forest of Tiveden relates of how the forest had its unique red water lilies through the intervention of the nøkken:
