2 AS results The AS grade is a ‘stand alone’ grade
AS units also make up 50% of the total marks available for the full A-level grade (with the exception of Psychology) If the subject is carried forward into 6th Upper, the mark achieved at AS is very significant eg. high ‘B’ (139 marks) and a low ‘B’ (120 marks)

3 A-level examinations consist of either 4 or 6 units
4 unit subjects: 2 units in Year 13 and 2 units in Year 14. 400 ‘uniform’ marks in total (200 at AS and 200 at A2) 6 unit subjects: 3 units in Year 13 and 3 units in Year 14 600 ‘uniform’ marks in total (300 at AS and 300 at A2)

Although Emily achieved the same grade as Claire, she will need to resit both AS modules if she needs to gain an A grade next year or even just to consolidate her B grade which has only just made the boundary. AS Grade AS Mark Jack A 161 Claire B 159 Emily 140
