9 Negotiating your Job Application
Application Packet (typically applications) Make sure your cover letter address specifics in the job announcement What new things can you bring to the department Tailor your CV - put teaching experience first! Craft a teaching statement that focuses on why and how you teach. Support statements with clear rational examples that avoid jargon.

10 Negotiating your Job Application
Phone Interview (10-15 reviews conducted) Do you homework! Learn about the school you are applying to. Test out technology- skype interviews are common, test the location you are planning on using. On- Campus Interview (3-4 individuals brought to campus) Study the school and department and dress appropriately Teaching Talk Ask similar questions to different people and listen carefully to the answers. Most on campus interviews are about fit in the department and campus, show your enthusiasm for the job and get to know the departmental and campus culture as much as possible

11 Negotiating the Offer Salaries are often challenging to negotiate. Things to consider: 9 mo or 12 mo contract, what are summer expectations? Are there salary supplements It is really important to get a general feel for the campus culture so you know what are appropriate requests.
