Civil Society national network on HIV/AIDS & children’s issues Network of networks Membership – inclusive and open (83 Network Members) Represent > 1,000 organizations who reach 100,000s of children & families National coverage with reach to community level Brings together diverse skills and extensive experience in community development, service delivery, policy and law reform, research and child rights advocacy - across the four pillars of the National Strategic Plan

5 Sector Goals Improve civil society effectiveness and ‘cohesion’ in addressing issues affecting children especially in relation to HIV/AIDS in South Africa at all levels Participate meaningfully and effectively in SANAC structures Improved coordination with other relevant bodies and forums Support the implementation and monitoring of the NSP to fulfill, promote and protect children’s rights

7 Sector Programme Ensure the effective functioning of the Network
Identify and champion children’s HIV/AIDS related issues requiring urgent attention Maintain active children’s Sector representation on relevant SANAC structures Encourage more active engagement between the various child related structures and processes Promote NSP-literacy and action amongst Children’s Sector organizations Support monitoring & evaluation of child specific outputs and outcomes of the NSP

CATCH - Children’s Sector Executive and Working Group Children’s Sector organisations and individuals Children’s Sector Networks Information from organisations ‘on the ground’ is fed into SANAC decision making processes via the SANAC Children’s Sector Executive and Working group Information on SANAC decision making processes is passed via networks to organisations ‘on the ground’ for interest, input or action SANAC Plenary, PIC and other structures .

9 Achievements NSP with a range of child-specific interventions and goals Two National Network Summits – Feb 2007 and June 2008 Quarterly Working Group meetings – well attended and active Provincial Mobilisation – KZN, WC & Gauteng also initiated in NW, EC and Limpopo NSP literacy and mobilisation ( presentation and workshops with adults & children, etc) Communication tools developed for & Shared with sector on SANAC, Children’s Sector and child-specific NSP for different audiences M&E Project initiated – Dashboard being developed Resources – mobilised part of what is needed Championed the cause of PMTCT Championed the cause of Paediatric HIV Treatment Guidelines All structures of SANAC – Plenary, PIC, TTTs have a childn’s sector rep
