August 22 Objectives Students will… Produce a charcoal value sheet Understand how to use charcoal Students will have their photos taken for the grid drawing.

3 Charcoal Charcoal is made from burnt pieces of wood.
There are four kinds of charcoal you will use in class.

4 Vine charcoal This is used for sketching
It can be erased with your fingers It is very lightweight

5 Powder Charcoal This is a dust like charcoal which is used for laying ground. It gives the paper a light grey background

6 Compressed Charcoal This charcoal make a darker mark.
It is harder to ease. We use this for shading.

7 White Charcoal This is a white charcoal used for highlights
Make sure you erase before applying white charcoal.

Grid their photo

10 Students will first put a pinch of powder charcoal on their paper
Students will first put a pinch of powder charcoal on their paper. They will then rub in the powder charcoal with a paper towel. Students will then sketch a circle, cone and a cube. They will then pick a light source and shade the forms. Value Scales Formative Assessment

11 Gridding your picture With a ruler make one in lines from the top of the photo to the bottom Then make one inch line from left to right Connect the lines on the same plane USE A PENCIL ON THE PICTURE

12 This time 2 inch spaces Gridding your paper
On a white piece of paper lay some ground (powder charcoal) You need to do the same thing as before on your paper now using white charcoal pencil. This time 2 inch spaces

13 August 24th- September 3 Objectives
Summative Assessment Students will… Carefully look at each box and transfer the image using vine charcoal Shade and highlight the drawing when all of the image is sketched in place. Using compressed and white charcoal Add detail using your charcoal pencils
