36 BSHI-PAG Interactions 2015-16
With In respect of Academy of Healthcare Sciences Workforce planning and education CEO’s Service capacity issues NHSE Proposed revisions to CRGs HEE Proposed reforms to health education funding RCPath Critical results guideline House of Lords Sustainability of the NHS

37 Letter to President of AHCS
H&I workforce planning and education needs to deliver strategic goals of UK transplant programme not meaningfully addressed. Specific concerns wrt to Consultant recruitment and outputs of MSC programmes. Request to President to communicate concerns to Chief Medical Officer. ‘Positive and useful’

38 Letter to CEO’s Letter from BSHI/H&I Network provided to HoL’s for forwarding to their CEO’s wrt laboratory capacity in delivery of 2020 transplant targets. Flagged sustainability issues and need to proactively plan for increases.

39 NHSE Consultation on proposed revisions to CRGs
Supported formal appointment of chairs and their remuneration Flagged concerns regarding apparent diminution of capability resulting from reduced involvement of professional bodies Supported the joining of the renal dialysis with the renal transplantation CRG.

40 HEE Reforming Healthcare Education Funding Consultation
Failure to recognise that postgraduate qualifications other than those offered by HEI’s exist. Concerns for increased educational indebtedness of graduates entering NHS career pathways where HEI qualifications are specified but unfunded. Failure to recognise that costs of attending specified courses may be higher for those in smaller disciplines owing to geographic availability. ‘BSHI firmly believes that enactment of the proposals would be to the detriment of the future NHS Scientific workforce.’

41 RCPath – Communication of Critical Results Guideline
‘Situations whereby a more rapid communication or raised awareness of a critical or unexpected laboratory test result’ (is required) ISO 15189 Unexpected positive crossmatch Discrepant HLA type (in the setting of a deceased donor offer) Non paternity Advised that College H&I SAC be asked to provide an appendix to the guideline
